I got the amazing chance to experiment first hand with an original ARRI Alexa Mini LF and its full setup. I had the great opportunity to go through and learn some basic settings and mechanics of the camera. Alongside the ARRI camera, there was also the SONY FX9, BLACKMAGIC and RED camera that I was able to look through and learn how they fully operate. More than a hand full of equipment was also present during this meeting which I made sure to take advantage of and also experiment. I spoke to the technician from CVP and learned some basics about each camera when physically working with them. I learned the responsibilities of the 1st and 2nd AC on a set. I learned quite a lot from this session as there are situations you can be in on a real film set that I completely overlooked. We went through a few major roles on a set and learned the basics. I learned that it's just as important and useful to know everyone else's job (just basic knowledge) on a set as well as your own role because then you understand why certain things have to be done or if something goes wrong then understanding how to fix the problem. I learned that it is important to understand how different equipment works and how a different process can have the same outcome when it comes to filmmaking. I had the great opportunity to try out the cameras that I was considering buying. This really helped make my decision as I had the chance to get hands-on with the cameras and lenses I was interested in. As an aspiring cinematographer, I found this walk-in very useful as I learned a lot speaking to the Sony technicians and trying the cameras hands-on. I had the amazing chance to experiment with the Sony A7 and A7x which were cameras I was interested in buying, so this walk helped me understand how these cameras really work and their specifics. I had the great opportunity to try and experiment with all of these new gadgets. A section of the walk-in was focused on photography cameras, which I really appreciated as I had the chance to experiment with upcoming photography equipment that I could potentially use in the near future for a photoshoot. Cinema Canon cameras were also a high focus in this walk-in, Speaking to the technicians I had learned the difference between Full-frame, Super 35mm, 35mm, and 16mm and how that can majorly affect your focal length and the quality of the image.
