Old Major because he died unexpectedly, making it somewhat funny. Also because he was the one who brought all of the story that we could enjoy reading. He started the revolution of the animals.

I think that the novel had a handful of plotholes or inconsistencies, even though it was, overall, a well-written story. One being that it was never explained how carnivorous animals, like the dogs, were able to get their food. Another is how the animals ever actually rebelled. It's understandable to believe that, since they were brainwashed and scared, they wouldn't; but even after watching boxer die, the pigs violate every commmandment, and the clear, obvious mistreatment they faced; there should have been at least one instance of a struggle (besides the chickens' strike). It just seems hard to belive that, even though the animals were all suspicious, they never actually did anything; even after they clearly proved capable of rebellion and battle. I also disliked the ending, finding it too abrubt and unsatisfying. I would have liked to see the moment of realization when the animals realized that Napoleon was no longer worthy of being a leader.

My opinions and thoughts changed on each of the characters. My perspective on Napoleon changed, figuring out he was a power-hungry pig. As the book continued, I realized how much more cruel Napoleon is. But I feel as if things could have gone much worse if Napoleon wasn't the leader. Napoleon blinded the animals with lies to keep the animals thinking that they are living a good life and that it was much better than the days of Mr. Jones. My respect and emotional thoughts changed for Boxer towards Chapter 9. I respected Boxer more for working harder than anyone else, even though it wasn't as necessary to do. But however, I started to feel bad for Boxer because he worked himself to points where it would injure him. The pigs responded by slaughtering him since he was of no use.

There have been some confusions and unanswered questions in this short story. As someone said, the dogs are more described as carnivorous animals. Dogs were also explained as one of the smarter animals on the farm. The dogs could have gained control, but instead obeyed Napoleon and the other pigs being potentially a delicious dinner. Why did the intelligent dogs decided to stay obeying Napoleon? Is it because they were given dog treats and received larger quantities of food? I feel as if we could have experienced a first person type of book where we can understand exactly how unintelligent some of the animals are instead of just being described as it. -quandale dingle

My favorite character was Benjamin, because I find his skepticism and apathy somewhat relatable and intriguing. And, although he was painted to be a character who felt no loyalty to anyone, still helped the other animals on a number of occasions (Boxer's death, reading the commandments for clover, etc.). However, Benjamin definitely had the ability to help the other animals more and, if he had, would have been a more likeable and popular as a character; however, I think that it adds to his character and represents a very specific type of person: those who have the ability to inact change but hold no real opinion or motivation to do so. Indifference in the face of injustice may be selfish, but it is undoubtedly human.

Originally, I thought that this novel would be more focused on the conecpt of communism itself, but it seemed to be more about how corrupt leaders can taint the image of communism. Communism, in theory, is not wrong, but every leader, politician, and human being on Earth is selfish/greedy on some level. We all have the predisposition to exploit others, and a society centered around trust and honesty will not thrive as long as humanity exists. Also I kind of thought that Snowball was going to exist in the story for longer than he did.
