You have to determine a way to organize the children so that children become independent. Neatly organized and labeled baskets are great. It is also essential to have some sort of labeling system so that students are confident where to return books.  I have found that colored dots work wonderfully for this. Of course, debriefing after practicing read-to-self is important.
