It is a powerful condemnation of the atomic age and a plea for nuclear powers to end the march towards oblivion," (9).

"The opening scene of Godzilla must have been particularly chilling for Japanese moviegoers... unmistakable reference to The Lucky Dragon, a tuna trawler that strayed dangerously close to an American H-bomb test and ignited and international controversy when its crew returned to Japan, sick with radiation poisoning," (2).

A number of people living on these islands (Rongelap, Itrik, and Rongerik) developed radiation burns and many were evacuated from their homes temporarily," (2).

"The primary culprit on Bikini was the radioactive isotope cesium-137. It had become so widely distributed in the soil, the water, and the crops on the island that no one living there could escape from it. In 1978, tests showed that returnees had ingested quantities of radioactive materials much higher than the levels considered to be safe," (2).

"From 1946 until the present day, Bikini Atoll is still uninhabitable due to the radioactive fallout from the atomic bomb testings," (2).
