These actions are considered potential war crimes under international law, raising serious concerns about the justice and violation of human rights, like the right to life, the access to essential resources or the protection from inhumane treatment.

Lack of freedom of expression and access to information: The government strictly controls all media, restricting access to independent information. The population only has access to state propaganda glorifying the regime and the Kim family. The Internet is virtually inaccessible to most, and the few who use it can only access a controlled internal network. Any criticism of the government can be severely punished.

Restrictions on freedom of movement:

Citizens need special permits to travel within the country, and going abroad is prohibited except in specific cases and under strict supervision. Those who attempt to escape are considered traitors and face punishments including forced labor or execution.

Political oppression and prison camp system:

There is no political freedom or pluralism; the Korean Workers' Party dominates all aspects of life. Those who challenge the regime or commit "political crimes" are sent to prison camps (kwanliso), where they suffer forced labor, torture and inhumane conditions.

Inequality and systemic discrimination:

The population is ranked in a system called "songbun," which determines opportunities according to perceived loyalty to the regime. This affects access to education, employment, and food,perpetuating inequality
