Starting in 5th grade, I began a music course nothing like I had ever experienced before. Suddenly, I was expected to skip a class every other week and attend a music lesson for my unique instrument. On top of that, we faced rigorous band rehearsals every 3 days. The new middle school band course took some getting used to, but by the end of second quarter, I was finally getting the hang of it.

Starting September of 6th grade, the difficulty of our music pieces began to ramp up. I was forced to begin practicing at home to keep up with my peers. Despite the pressures that came with band in 6th grade, overall it was a lot of fun. Band was my median of socializing with friends that I wouldn't usually interact with. I made friends that I have kept to this day. On top of this, Mr. Pirro's lessons turned out to be quite exciting; we built flute stands, worked in our personal music progress, and built a student-teacher bond that I hadn't had prior to this year.

Unfortunately with the start of 7th grade came the retirement of our band teacher, Mr. Pirro. I continued to enjoy band to the same level, strengthening my relationships with friends. People slowly started dropping out and the classroom began to get a little smaller. Our two band classes ended up having to combine due to the small amount of total members. Despite this, 7th grade band was great; there was even a flute solo that I began taking on.

Then came COVID-19. Band was suddenly put to a halt and we were forced to document our music progression from home. If I'm being perfectly honest, I played very little flute during quarantine. Band simply wasn't the same and I began to lose my motivation to play. 

So far 8th grade music has been okay. I have to give the teachers credit for putting together such an organized curriculum in such a short period of time. Despite, this I don't really hold the same passion for music this year that I had in prior years. And that's basically where I'm at now. You will do so many things in school which you may have never ever come across. The pieces may seem difficult at first but as you keep playing them towards the end of each class, you and your band classmates will get the hand of the piece and it will start grooving and it will turn out to be a great piece at the concert. Speaking of concerts, they were really fun! You played at least 3 pieces for each concert and if they were good, everyone loved them. The band teacher, Mr. Semel is really great because along with teaching, he also can joke around a lot of he wants to! Well of course we had to do work to perfect our music but we never actually had to do paperwork and graded stuff. But other than that I also liked it because I had the easiest instrument that had to learn the least notes. Even though we had to learn the least notes, the notes were pretty hard and had to do them either pretty low or pretty high but for me I liked to practice them for a long time and loved it when I was the best player for a few weeks but then I completely sucked compared to the others. You should definitely pick the trombone if you don’t know what to take because it is pretty easy and fun to learn.

What I will always remember was how good it felt to finish a song, and to know you played well. In band, everyone has to support each other, without the drum, or the flutes, or the trumpets, or any of the other instruments, nothing would sound as good. Band has taught me to be focused and willing to work as a group. I had so much fun during band with the great people and even though it isn’t the same anymore, I will always remember it and be thankful that I got to be in band.

       I loved it for many many reasons but the three main reasons were that 1. I love preforming in front of people 2. I love learning and playing instruments 3. I felt like I had an environment of people who felt the same.

       While doing band I felt like I learned a whole bunch of things that will help me in the future of my life. For example, it helped me realize that some things will take time and if you wait and practice, practice, practice, you will become good at that thing.

In total I feel like band was a very fun learning experience that I would recommend to anyone. Because it's not just an instrument... I played the clarinet throughout 5th, 6th, and 7th grade. I was going to join general music this year in 8th grade, but COVID did not allow it. 5th grade was a great starter year. I was with tons of friends though so I wasn't able to concentrate well. Mr. Semel was a hilarious teacher, always telling jokes and talking about eleven dollars. In 6th grade most band members in my grade left to join general music. I was still devoted to band so I stuck with it. I still had some friends, but in seventh grade the last of them would leave to join GM. On the bright side I was able to completely concentrate on band without so many friends talking to me. Overall I really enjoyed my three years of band. Being in band, you get to learn how to play an instrument, and learning how to play an instrument might be a daunting task for you. But it actually isn’t. If you learn the basics, learning how to play pieces actually isn’t that hard. I also get to play in band with good friends, so that makes the experience better as well. Also, there is never homework from band unless you want to practice at home which is recommended.

In 4th grade at Roaring Brook I played the clarinet.  It was okay but I was thinking of switching instruments to percussion when I got to Bell.  I signed up for General Music because I thought making music was really fun and interesting.  Being in a band would be fun but I would also like a chance to be in school musicals.

Band was the highlight of the day every time there was one. It was fun to play the sax and I had fun with my friends in the band. Unlike regular classes there's close to no homework in the band, and if there is, it's mostly just practicing the new song you're learning and recording it. I highly recommend joining the band, it's a good experience and a good place to make new friends.

I liked my band experience, but I thought that the songs that I was getting were not at all challenging enough on drums. I did like to experiment with how I could spice up the song with some cool extra stuff, and my friends were in my class, so that was fun :)

My experience with band was almost nothing but positive.
There was always some interaction between students and helped improve students social skills. Always working with one another to a goal was a great motivator for everyone. Emersing yourself into different culture helped everyone learn about each other. I also must admit, playing the Trombone isn't the easiest thing to do. When I began, it took us 2 classes just to learn how to set up the Trombone. It was very hard at 1st, especially when Covid-19 came along. 

A few days before school shut, we were typically doing a Trombone class. While playing "Hot Cross Buns", we were told that school might go Virtual, and that Trombone would be at home. I was not prepared for such an event, and this brought difficulties to my Trombone classes. I lost interest in playing Trombone. The general ignorance and disinterest of grades last year made me have to be reliant on my mother for helping me play Trombone.

On the other hand, middle school music has been fun so far. Our teacher, Mr. Martineau, is kind and has motivated us into getting good grades. There is not much that I can say about my middle school experience since I'm only in 5th grade except that: it's fun and I hope that you can experience class like I am.
