Lord of the Flies is a perfect moral lesson neatly wrapped in a wonderful piece of literature, at a perfect serving size for students and teachers globally. It is full of great literary devices and themes, obvious or implicit, to be analysed by students of different skill levels. Mix that with the lesson that specifies that we are all capable of unspeakable things, and to be wiser and always look of civility in yourself.

Lord of the Flies was a novel Sir William Golding wrote after serving in WWII, in order to portray the innate cruelty and evil that lay dormant - for the most part - within each and every human. Lord of the Flies is still relevant today since it serves as a reminder of what us as humans are capable of: feats originally unbeknownst to man, and works of art which are considered revolutionary - but also because it displays the extents that people will go to get what they want. As personified by Jack Merridew, those who lust for power and control over others may remain one with the crowd, but once order fails, they seize their chance and drive the weak willed of us - the followers, if you will - to the ground, to dig our own graves in the mistakes of not only our ancestors, but also of ourselves.

Golding might have chosen to use the theme of savagery because he has seen many horific things that has changed his life. During the war he would have seen people he trusted change drastically in a short space in time, people he used to trust turn evil. This would have given him a great idea for the character, Jack. He might have made a character like Jack to make people think more about how the human race now act.

LOTF is still relevant today due to the fact it conveys that without rules and social boundaries, humans would be savages. Rules ensure that everyone is safe and teaching it in schools and highlighting how wrong it is may help children understand how important rules really are. Despite how ridiculous or over the top they may be it is essential to follow them. It is also references the beast inside, we are animals and we are capable of animalistic tendencies. As shown by characters such as Jack when he acts vicious and predatory.

Lord of the Flies is still relevant today because it illustrates the true nature of men. The central focus of the lord of the flies is the conflict between two conflicting impulses that exist in human beings. There's the instinct to live by the rules and the instinct to give in to our selfish desires. This conflict might be expressed in a number of ways like civilization vs. savagery. Some other books that are similar to lord of flies like treasure island are not as realistic as lord of the flies since they portray being stuck on an island as a fun, light hearted adventure.

It teaches us the importance of listening to others opinions (teamwork) and how you can be influenced easily by the environment and people surrounding you. Golding might have used to portray this to show the horrors of bloodlust in WW2 he might have even used Jack to portray himself when he was losing the idea if civilization and entranced by bloodlust and war.
