I think that Friar John is responsible for their deaths. Friar Lawrence and Juliet came up with a plan that would've allowed them to be together, along with preventing Juliet's forced marriage. Friar John was supposed to deliver a key letter that would tell Romeo of the plan. However, Friar John was unable to deliver the letter and DIDN'T TELL ANYONE. Couldn't have Friar Lawrence done something differently if he had been informed about John? Anyway, because Romeo doesn't know about the plan and he's already unstable from being exiled, when he gets to the graveyard he just gives up which then results in Juliet dying too. The plan would've worked if Romeo had received the letter, and they would be free and happy. -Jonah

I think the Montague Family and the Capulet Family are to blame for Romeo and Juliets death because if they were not in a fight then Romeo and Juliet could have fallen in love and gotten married. In the book Romeo and Juliet meet at a party and fall in love, but then Romeo gets into a fight with Tybalt who is Juliets cousin and a Capulet, Tybalt ends up dying and Romeo is exiled which leads to Juliet running away to be with him. Juliet then fakes her death to be with him and Romeo thinks that she is actually dead and drinks poison to be dead with her. This would have never happened if the Capulets and Montagues didnt hate each other because then Romeo and Juliet could have lived happily together and Tybalt would not have died and Romeo would not have been exiled.

I think that Friar Lawrence was to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he was a very poorly planned figure in the book and he didn't have much of an idea of the consequences of marrying the two characters. Also, he should have told Romeo and Juliet's parents and let them deal with the situation. Thirdly, he did not have a good plan set up with Juliet pretending to die which led to the tragedy. of both these important characters dying. Looking back at all these pieces of information from the book, we can see that Friar Lawrence took a big part of the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.

I think everyone has a little bit of blame, but I think that Friar Lawrence has the most guilt because he could've delivered the letter himself instead of causing a lot of misunderstanding. He was quite careless by sending another Friar to Mantua. He also ran away because he got scared of some noise instead of preventing Juliet from killing herself. When he realized that R and J could die he should've told the families because their life is actually more important than the family feud. I also think Romeo and Juliet are also to blame for their own deaths.

I strongly believe that Romeo and Juliet's parents are to blame for Their Childrens' deaths. This is because of how stubborn they are. Even though they have a dispute within families they should have put it aside for the sake of their children. If they had not been so stubborn from the start of their children's lives Romeo and Juliet would not have had to sneak around with Friar Lawrence and get into so many fights and kill some people just to be with each other. If they didn't sneak around so much and were allowed to be happy with each other they would not have messed up the whole plan and died. The fact that these awful parents waited until their children died to end the ongoing dispute in Verona is outrageous. Sometimes adults need to learn how to let kids be. Especially when their kids are old or mature enough to make their own decisions.

I think that the families fighting is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. If the families were not fighting then Romeo and Juliet could have been lovers in peace without anyone to hide from like their families. I also think that given the situation the 2 lovers had some level of self responsibility. The friar would have not needed to plot anything if the families were not fighting. so the root problem is the Capulet-Montague feud. there are other Problems such as friars plot to have Romeo And Juliet Kill themselves however this would not be a problem if the families were not fighting.

I believe that Romeo is responsible for the deaths, as he was the one confirming his friend's urges to attend to the party during his recluse period when he was coping over Rosaline. This would eventually lead him to meet Juliet, being the true beginning of the tragedy. The responsibility could have also been due to his friends due to their idea of invading a party by the Capulets uninvited, convincing Romeo, a recognizable Montague, to go. To consider other options, Juliet is not responsible for the deaths having not been the one responsible for planning the Capulet's party, and already being forced to attend.

I think everyone is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because everyone had a part to play in it. The families were fighting and that is what caused Romeo and Juliet to hide their relationship at all costs. Friar Lawrence is the one giving them ideas and he also supplied Juliet that potion to make her fall into a deep sleep. Friar also does not do a good job communicating with either Romeo or Juliet, which led to Romeo thinking Juliet was dead and him killing himself, and Romeo death led to Juliet fr killing herself.

The messenger is to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet. His thought of an inconvenience stops Romeo from knowing the truth about Juliet's death being a potion that makes her seem dead for a while. He learned from the other people in Mantua that she died. This causes him to kill himself next to Juliet. Juliet also kills herself because she sees Romeo dead. Even though the Messenger understood the importance of the situation and the consequences that could happen, he denied sending the very important message.

I think that Friar Lawrence can take some fault for what has happened. Because he didn't tell anybody and followed directions from impulsive kids. I also believe Nurse can take some blame for this happening as well because she is basically related to the Capulet family and she completely broke the trust to the Capulet family. I feel that if she really was thinking about the actions she took she could have helped the situation.

While Romeo and Juliet's parents are mostly responsible because they had the conflict and tried to get them to marry other people, I think that Tybalt is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because even though he is dead, he was the reason that Romeo was banished in the first place. If Romeo was never banished, he could have stayed in Verona with Juliet and made a clear plan to either declare their love or run away together without any miscommunication. Tybalt also caused more conflict between the families because he was trying to provoke Romeo so he could try to kill him and he ended up being killed which set off the Prince and ultimately ended in Mercutio's death and Romeo's banishment. Tybalt was also trying to start more conflict at the party where Romeo and Juliet met because he saw Romeo and reported him to Lord Capulet which could have made even more problems between the families.

I think Friar John is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. I think this because if he had just gone to Romeo and delivered the note in time, Romeo and Juliet wouldn't have died and would've been able to escape. Although the feuding families sort of caused their deaths, it's not entirely their fault because they didn't know how much Romeo and Juliet liked each other. Additionally, they can't be expected to leave all their previous altercations behind them just because Juliet or Romeo says that they're in love. Friar Lawrence's smart plan would've worked if Friar John delivered the note to Romeo because he would've known that Juliet was actually alive and therefore wouldn't have killed himself.

I think the families are responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. I think this because if the rivalry never existed, so many things wouldn't have happened. Tybalt would not have been killed by Romeo, so Romeo would seemingly not be banned from Verona. Juliet would then have never drunk the potion and the letter wouldn't have not been delivered to Romeo. Overall, none of this confusion would've happened throughout the storyline and they would not have both committed suicide. While Friar Lawrence and the Nurse were a part of it, both of them truly wanted what was best for the couple. They could see that they were in love and just wanted them to be happy. Romeo and Juliet were destined to be together, and you can't stop fate. Even though certain characters throughout the book made msitakes, no issues with he couple would have occurred in the first place if not for the families' fued.

While Friar and Nurse both played roles in progressing the relationship, both in good trouble, I don't believe that one single person can be rightfully convicted with full responsibility. It is implied in the prologue that the families had been fighting for quite some time, "Ancient grudge", and whatever unnamed, unknown character who initially started the feud between families would technically be responsible for all future events including the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence himself is not responsible for the deaths as he did not control Romeo or Juliets actions. It is shown earlier in the play during the party scene, that Romeo is one to act on quick impulse which makes his quick thinking of poisoning himself not very unbelievable for his character. "If I take profane with my unworthiest hand...". Juliet herself is portrayed as a character with some willpower against certain things but devoted to something she deeply cares about. With that, I believe that it is not possible to convict a single person for the deaths however, I believe that it was the feuding families' faults.

But what primarily could've prevented everything was if Friar John had sent the letter in time. Romeo would then know that Juliet wasn't dead and they could run away together. Miscommunication was what caused the both of them to die.

There are many other people to blame like the feud between the two families. If they were not enemies it wouldn't have to come to this. If Tybalt didn't kill Mercutio, then Romeo wouldn't have to kill Tybalt. Then the next chain of events wouldn't have had to happen. There are many more but these are just a few.

I believe that the people most at fault of Romeo and Juliets deaths are their parents. The reason I think this, is because of Romeo and Juliets need for secrecy throughout this entire ordeal. If both of their parents were more accepting, supportive and overall more open, then Romeo and Juliet would not have needed to keep it a secret from them. In this case, they would have told their parents, and their parents could help them think everything through and be more throrough. This would mean they could take their relationship slower instead of completely rushing through everything. Most importantly, in this scenario, Juliet would not have to fake her own death, Romeo would not have thought she were dead, and over all, neither of them would end up killing themselves. While I do believe this is true, it is important to recognize that others had fault in this. If Romeo hadn't killed Tybalt, he wouldn't be banished, meaning Romeo could stay in Verona. If the two of them had just taken their relationship slower, they could probably figure out a better way to do what they wanted to. If Friar John had just found a way to send the letter, Romeo would know the plan. I Romeo hadn't been so impulsive on seeing Juliet dead, she would have woken up and told him the truth. Either way, there are many people in this story that could have had a fault in their deaths.

While almost every character participated slightly in the death of Romeo and Juliet (Friar John with the letter, the families, etc.), Lady Capulet (specifically) is at the most fault. After Romeo kills Tybalt, Benvolio attempts to explain what happened truthfully to the prince. After this, however, Lady Capulet claims that Benvolio is lying and that Romeo killed Tybalt for almost no reason. This leads the Prince to exile Romeo, the first event that sets off the chain of death. Lady Capulet pushing Romeo's exile is the least excusable action because while the other parents discourage Romeo and Juliet from being together, Lady Capulet is the most active in this.- Max McGlothlin
