On August 28th, 1963, over 250,000 contributors marched in front of the US Washington Monument at Washington, DC. The protesters were fighting for Jobs and Freedom that was inflicted by much racial discrimination in the US at that time. The original march was planned 20 years prior in 1941 but was cancelled when FDR (Franklin D. Roosevelt) meet their requests as to not cause a protest. These requests were not enough for the long run however and the march began again.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cd/IhaveadreamMarines.jpg

The face of the entire movement, Martin Luther King Jr. at this march spoke his historical, "I Have a Dream Speech" which was actually completely spontaneous and the topic was brought up by someone in the crowd. MLK was one of the most influential participants of this movement. Ironically, he wasn't even supposed to speak yet no one else took the last spot of the day until MLK volunteered. A few year later however he was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
https://f1.media.brightcove.com/8/4495439099001/4495439099001_5325818779001_5305215534001-vs.jpg?pubId=4495439099001&videoId=5305215534001
