Since I was a little girl, I always pictured myself being a teacher. When I was about six years old, my mother bought me a chalk board/dry erase board for Christmas. I would tell my mom and two little brothers to sit down because I wanted to teach them about anything and everything I could. My mom told me I would be at it for hours, writing on the board, talking to no one, pretending like I really had a class of students behind me. Most of my family are teachers, of all different subjects. Of course though, math is my subject. I love every bit of math, except geometry, but does anyone really enjoy geometry? My God Mother was a math teacher at Mother Macaulay. She is the one person that inspired me to follow the path of teaching. She knew that it was something I really had interest in and something that I would be great at! Throughout the years, I have thought about other things to do with my life and teaching is the only one that speaks to me. It is the only major I can see myself enjoying. This is the reason I am going to be a teacher one day, and a great one!

This is the first class that I am taking in my college career toward my degree. My goal in this class is to help open my eyes about the kind of teaching I want to do and the different tools I can use to be a great teacher. "Participate in a local learning community to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning", that is my objective for this class. I hope to engage with my community and the other teachers around me to come up with new and exciting ways in technology to help our students learn in a more effective way. There is no better way then to teach them using technology, because kids now a days are always on their phones, laptops, tablets, etc. As as community, we can come up with a fun, effective way to use technology to our advantage and to help kids learn through the devices that they use day to day!

Teaching 5-8th grade would be my ideal teaching age/range. I think it is a perfect age to teach because they are no longer being dependent so much and are starting to branch off on their own. Opposed to older kids, they are not so snotty and bratty throughout high school and having to worry about ACT, SAT, and all different things they have going on for college prep. I see myself going on those little field trips, planning field day, having mandatory parent/teacher conferences, things like that, being more involved in your students and classroom.

Kahoot! is a great learning game for kids. Teachers are able to ask their own questions (multiple choice, short answer, or true and false). Students use their phones to connect with the teachers quiz, answering the questions using technology, and still having a fun time while learning. Another goal of mine is to use fun games such as Kahoot! to create a fun, learning environment.
