A leader needs to be aware of what they are doing well and where they need to improve. Reflective leaders also need to model a mindset of continual growth. A reflective staff will intrinsically motivate themselves to grow with having and understanding of being reflective.

Also having integrity is a critical characterisit to have. Without integrity the emotional bank account with the staff would be at risk of dwindling, if any investments have been made at all. Words are nothing without follow through. There should be no seperation between what is said and what is done.

Being reflective would have to come first as having an awareness of your actions will allow you to develop the integrity of your character. Learning of and developing a system to be reflective is accessible. 

To strengthen these qualities a leader needs to want to improve. With that being reflective and implementing a system is critical. Taking the time to be alone away from staff to reflect allows growth. From this growth a leader may see that they need to take more action.
