         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the Spring of 1856, Judge Samuel Lecompte ordered for the anti-slavery leaders in Lawrence to be arrested. Over 800 pro-slavery supporters rode into Kansas and attacked the city of Lawrence. They also attacked two newspaper offices and many home and shops. As a final message to Abolitionists, they aimed their cannons at the Free State Hotel and smashed it into oblivion</div>]]></description>

Neither side could get enough votes necessary to win. Both sides kept trying to get Kansas into the union.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the year 1869 in Kansas, they housed the Free soil Kansas Legislature Though these results were later ruled fraudulent, they changed the outlook on slavery in Kansas. Anti-Slavery forces had the numbers in Kansas, but they were still outvoted. In the end, there were 36 pro-slavery delegates and 3 anti-slavery delegates.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>It took a very long time for Charles Sumner to recover from the attack. Brooks was given a $300 fine instead of being expelled from the house. The violence from this sent Sumner to be away from the House for multiple years. In the end, Sumner resigned and returned to his home in South Carolina.</div>]]></description>
