It might be interesting to put it in the 1980s a little while after the ending of the Vietnam war, it's a little more modern and a lot less disconnected from a majority of modern day audiences than the world wars are. Generally, keep a lot of it the same but focus on a more recent major war. Maybe even focusing on the war in Afghanistan, adding another layer of discussion of America and its exploitation of wars and its soldiers and people for its own benefit.
