Learners are still beaten in their hands, bums, they are punched and threatened by their teachers and when they try to raise this issue they get ignored or threatened because they do not have power. Learners are beaten for being late for school, not wearing full uniform, not doing homework, not responding when a teacher is asking a question or for making noise. Most of the learners come home bruised every day sometimes these bruises lead to serious physical injuries. They are bullied and abused and they are not given a chance to speak for themselves. Some learners get suspended for knowing their rights and refusing to be beaten. This punishment leads to high percentage of dropouts, learners being afraid to report these type of issues because teachers will make them fail in purpose, hate them, threaten them, or even kick them out during their lessons. Giving a person a hiding is not always the right way but if that's how you raise someone then they will grow up to be just like you. Sometimes it's better to just talk somethingout and solve it verbally. But in other instances ,learners also take advantage of the whole "learners have rights" thing and just over do it all. Crcly it gets annoying sometimes. But let's be honest ,corporal punishment got the job done sometimes.
