The German Empire started as the Holy Roman Empire including 100’s of somewhat united states. Austria was the most powerful state in this empire. During the Napoleonic Wars, after Napoleon’s conquest in Germany, German speakers began to feel a sense of unity. The confederation of Germany voted to be ruled under Prussia in a new empire of Germany. The Germans crushed the French in war leading to the new German Empire being created.

The country of Italy was originally made up into multiple minor states. They were first combined into the Empire of Northern Italy when Napoleon beat them in battle. They eventually reverted back to independent states after he was defeated. Some Italian states fought against Russia with the British and French in hopes of gaining an ally, then gaining France’s trust and fighting with them again against the Austrians. The Italians lastly gained control of two of their most important cities, Venice and Rome, with the help of France; thus completing the Italian Empire.

In the early day of Haiti there was a mix of many races. These races included about 20,000 white people who may have owned slaves or been middle class. But most of the population was made up of half a million slaves who lived in horrible conditions. The enslaved people then rose up and started to kill thousands of white people leading to a white leader asking the blacks to fight with him in order for their freedom. People of color then came together and fought against the British, therefore gaining them the new country of Haiti being somewhat established.

Otto von Bismarck was the main leader for Germany during their unification. Bismarck led in three decisive battles of Denmark, Austria, and France. Bismarck then became the Chancellor of ‘new’ Germany. The new leader of Germany was Wilhelm I who ruled over von Bismarck, yet he did most of the work.

Giuseppe Garibaldi was an Italian general, revolutionary and republican. One major event he won was when he led a volunteer army of guerrilla soldiers to capture Lombardy for Piedmont. He later conquered Sicily and Naples. Garibaldi also won in a hard fought battle against the dictator of Argentina for Uruguay. In the end, Garibaldi became more popular than King Victor Emmanuel himself for the accomplishments that he had.

One of the main leaders for the Haitian unification was a Haitian man from Saint-Domingue (present day Haiti) named Toussaint L’Ouverture. He was the leader of the Haitian independence crusade during the French Revolution. Toussaint was born to an educated enslaved man and learned a little in school. L’Ouverture got the attention of his plantation owner with his smarts which eventually led to him becoming a leader in his country. After leading his people, he was finally able to emancipate the enslaved nation of Haiti.
