         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Pick a day at random, and you can bet that nearly 40% of Americans will eat fast food during those 24 hours, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS).<br>Between 2013 and 2016, 36.6% of American adults said they ate fast food in the past 24 hours, according to interviews conducted through the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Anything participants categorized as “restaurant fast food/pizza” was included in the total. (Fast food tends to be high in calories, fat and sodium without offering much nutritional value.)<br><br></div>]]></description>

But at the same time, recent federal data found that <a href="http://time.com/5029164/fruit-vegetable-diet/">90% of adults don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables</a>, and obesity rates <a href="http://time.com/5100737/obesity-lowering-life-expectancy-united-states/">continue to tick upward</a>. The popularity of fast and <a href="http://time.com/4252515/calories-processed-food/">processed foods</a> suggests that Americans may not always be following through on their intentions to eat healthier.<br><strong>The market is likely to be worth more than $690.80 billion in 2022</strong>, developing at a compound annual growth rate of more than 4.20%, <a href="https://www.zionmarketresearch.com/news/fast-food-market">according to Zion Market Research</a>. Additional boosts are provided by the increase in online ordering and the multiplication of app-based companies offering delivery services.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>People from ages 20 to 39 were the most likely to say they ate fast food during the past day, at nearly 45%, followed by people ages 40 to 59 (almost 38%) and people older than 60 (around 24%). Eating fast food on a given day was also most common among black adults (about 42%), followed by white (almost 38%), Hispanic (35.5%) and Asian (almost 31%) adults. Slightly more men than women — almost 38%, versus about 35% — reported eating fast food over the past day.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>You may be aware that fast and processed foods can harm your physical health, leading to <a href="http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140673604176630/abstract"><em>diabetes and obesity</em></a><em>, as well as premature cardiac death, cancer, </em><a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2745509"><em>strokes</em></a><em>, and more</em>.<br><br></div><div>But these foods are also <a href="http://www.vancouversun.com/health/Fast+food+damage+your+brain+study/5919856/story.html"><em>altering</em></a><em> your brain</em> and your <em>mental health – fueling depression, mental illness</em>, and other issues.<br><br></div><div>According to a <a href="https://www.alphagalileo.org/ViewItem.aspx?ItemId=118970&amp;CultureCode=en">study</a> published in the <em>Public Health Journal,</em> <strong>people who eat fast foods are 51% more likely to develop depression</strong> compared to those who eat little or no fast food. And this finding was for people who only consumed <em>two servings of fast food a week</em>.<br><br></div><div>Another <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3622736">study</a> published in the <em>Journal of Adolescence Health</em> found that eating just <strong>one serving of French fries per week during adolescence increased women’s breast cancer risk later in life by 27%</strong>.<br><br></div><div>And a <a href="http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/126/2/182">study</a> published in <em>Circulation</em> found that <strong>eating fast food one time per week increased the risk of dying from coronary heart disease by 20%</strong> — a risk that grew to 50% for people eating fast food two or three times per week.<br><br></div><div><strong><br> </strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Eating junk food increases the risk of becoming depressed, a study has found, prompting calls for doctors to routinely give dietary advice to patients as part of their treatment for depression.<br><br></div><div>In contrast, those who follow a traditional Mediterranean diet are much less likely to develop depression because the fish, fruit, nuts and vegetables that diet involves help protect against Britain’s commonest mental health problem, the research suggests.<br><br></div><div>Published in the journal Molecular Psychiatry, the findings have come from an analysis by researchers from Britain, Spain and Australia who examined 41 previous studies on the links between diet and depression.<br><br></div>]]></description>
