Pico Iyer is the author of the piece " The joy of Less." Iyer is still one of the most respected travel writers today. Iyer was educated at Oxford University and got his masters in literature from Harvard University. He currently lives in Japan. " The Joy of Less" appeared in the New York Times in 2009 as part of a series on "spiritual literacy." During 2009, The Great Recession was a period of general economic decline observed in world markets during the late 2000s and early 2010s. Iyer's main argument is that you are never satisfied with what you have. He states that happiness is often comes around when it's not pursued. Iyer wrote this during that time in order to make his audience feel better.
" Even though financially the situation may not be up to the mark, but that mental peace and happiness is second to none.
Is not about the materialistic things.

Mark Twain is the author of the piece " Two Rivers." Twain was born in Florida, but grew up in the river town of Hannibal, Missouri where he watched the comings and goings of the steamboats he would eventually pilot.

Novelist, essayist, author David Foster Wallace in the Graduation Commemoration Speech given in 2005, introduces the topic of changing their "default-setting" of being self centered to fresh grads ready to be stepping into a new chapter in their lives, his main argument being that one should be conscious about the others around us when approaching the world. One has to get out of their default setting in order to view life differently, life coming to be ones career that can be boring as we age. Self renewal is necessary to stay motivated and to find something that drives us.
