Today I want to touch about the history of tourism in Malaysia. So, I want to tell about A Famosa Malacca.

Kota A Famosa is one of the famous tourist spots in Malaysia. Kota A Famosa became a tourist center due to its unique features that can be seen in terms of buildings, architecture and interesting historical remains. The location of Kota A Famosa is located next to the replica of the Malacca Sultanate Palace and St. Paul in Lower Town. It is the oldest European architectural building and still exists today. Kota A Famosa or in Portuguese meaning "Famous" was built in 1511 by the Portuguese after they successfully captured Malacca. 

The time taken to build Kota A Famosa was only 5 months and the materials used were materials from the ruins of mosques and other buildings. With a stone wall thickness of 2.4 meters to 4.5 meters, the Kota A Famosa building is said to be very strong and help protect the Portuguese from all forms of attack. Among the privileges that Kota A Famosa has is in terms of its construction method.

After the Portuguese took control of Malacca, they used forced labor to build temporary forts. The fort was built to prevent the Malays from attacking them. At that time, the Portuguese were building the main fortress called A'Famosa or referred to as Malacca Fortress (Fortaleza de Malacca). Kota A Famosa was actually modified and restored by the Dutch after they were able to capture Malacca. The city had suffered severe damage due to the fighting at that time. 

If you visit Kota A Famosa, you can see for yourself the Dutch coat of arms placed on the gate that still remains with the engraving 'Anno 1670'. And only the city gate was the only remnant that could be saved from the destruction of the city that occurred in 1807. 

Kota A Famosa also has a special feature in terms of its unique architecture. The uniqueness of the architecture of Kota A Famosa can be seen from its buildings made of laterite stone and this type of laterite stone is usually found on the coast or islands in the state of Melaka. This laterite stone was used during the Portuguese rule for the construction of their defensive city. The special feature found in this laterite stone is the holes where the tin and aluminum found in the laterite stone react when exposed to air.
Therefore, the laterite stone used in the architecture of Kota A Famosa clearly shows a unique feature with its reddish brown color and at the same time gives an extraordinary attraction to tourists. 

Kota A Famosa is not only a place full of history that you can visit simply to see the uniqueness of its architecture, but you can feel for yourself the experience of entering a fortress that has existed hundreds of years ago.
