I notice that the ants travel in zig zag paths to find food. They also tend to be in the shade rather than the sun unless there is food. I wonder what happens when two ants meet? Why do they zigzag? I wonder how long on average it takes ants to find food and communicate that there is food to their colony? I wonder what happens when an ant path is disturbed?

Interesting things that I noticed where that some ants seemed to have more purpose than others. While some may have been searching for food, slowly wandering around, other ants would move much faster, rapidly zigzagging around trying to avoid something or get somewhere fast? One ant was even carrying another wounded ant, who although didn't have any visible damage, was seemingly unable to walk on its own.The environment around it didn't seem to affect much, whether it was a table, concrete, or wood chips.

I noticed that the ants all traveled very quickly and frantically, they traveled in a zigzag pattern and sometimes they bumped into each other. The ants I observed were traveling back and forth over a rock in the sun (once they got over this rock they went under the next ones). None of them came back with food, so I wonder what they were looking for/ where they were going. I also wonder why they all follow the same general path (instead of separating to look in more places at once), and why they bump into each other.

The ant started to move quickly once it noticed me, maybe it got scared. I wonder why it was alone? Why does it have that single black stripe in its abdomen? I wonder why it was on the rock instead of the dirt/grass?

There couldn't have been more than 20 ants on either path. One trail disappeared underneath a cabinet and must have gone into the wall. the other trail ended about four feet from the door aside from the occasional ant wandering around the center of the room. it seemed to me that the ants were coming inside to get away from the heat.
it was about 70*f inside and almost 80 outside

What I notice is that there were tons of ants on the tree close to the canyon by my house. The ants were like people in Time Square. Most of the ants that I saw were small, brown, and had stripes expect the middle which looked like a honey color. Whenever I would try to touch one they all started to move faster than normal. I wonder why they always climb that tree and not the floor since there's no fruits on the tree?

The larger one was a reddish orange with a golden yellow(which I named Willbert)and the smaller one was a deep brown with a golden brown ombre on its abdomen. Willbert seemed to be protecting the smaller ants along with 3 or four others. They were stationed about a foot apart and each had about a 2 inch perimeter they were constantly checking its was really interesting. I wondered why they seemed to be protecting the smaller ants? and if they were what were they protecting them from?

I wonder if they’re saying something or sending something. I am intrigued by the many ants I saw, they seem to all go the same direction for the most part. I really admired the way they seemed in sync, random but in sync, I wonder if the sunny weather had anything to do with it.

Joshua Fisher

It is as large as other parts of its body and it drags behind the ant. Although they have this big mass they are very very fast and it took a while to actually capture one to study it. It had mainly black and red-ish,Brown colors. Also, I wonder what kind of job this ant had and why it's abdomen is so big?

I only found one ant and it didn't seem to be doing all that much. It was crawling around in circles on the sidewalk, going up and down the crevices. It was weaving in between the different weeds and grass, it might have been looking for food. It was very small and a dark brown color. It didn't have any food, so maybe it was looking for some. I wonder why it was on the sidewalk rather than some dirt or grass.

It moved very erratically. I also saw a large black ant, but I decided to focus on the smaller red one. I wonder why the anthills we had before in my yard aren't there anymore. I usually see a lot of ants but today there were only a few.

I went to Lindbergh park and I found a bunch of ants on the exposed root of one of the trees. They were kind of long and black in color. They were running around on the root but avoided the sunlight. They stayed only on the south side of the root as the strong breeze was coming from the north. I looked all around the tree to see if I could find where the colony lived and I couldn’t locate anything, so I wondered if they live in the tree itself. That would make sense because I could not see any ants on any of the other trees at the park.

While I was in Mexico I got bored one day and I decided to follow a trail of ants I saw some interesting behaviors it seems that they use all of their trails as 2 lane roads except there are no lines they just walk over each other quite literally and seem to be almost undisturbed by the others except for when they smell each other to pick up on pheromone cues. There was a interesting point in the trail where multiple trails intercepted and the ants behaved quite strange in the center were all of those trails merged into one big one they all kind of meandered around until they locked in on the main trail and started walking or found a branch and walked down that Some of them were also carrying larvae and eggs.

I found a single ant on a concrete ledge at my local park. I’m guessing it was scouting for something or looking for food, or both. They crawled around on the flat ledge for almost the entire time I watched, but they eventually crawled away into the nearby grass

I saw a line of small red ants along the side of my house. They were staying in the shade and moving quickly in a single file line. There were a few ants posted up like security guards protecting the line. They were coming from the shrubs in my backyard, and went all the way to the hedge next to our driveway. I think they live in the hedge. It was sunny out, and I would assume they would not be out if it were raining.
