Annie and Maya
QUESTION:
How has the internet influenced how political campaigns are run (and won)?

ANSWERS:

The internet allows all information about the candidates to be widespread so as to either benefit or disadvantage campaigns. A very recent example of this would be the 2016 presidential election in which Clinton's private email use, although not resulting in criminal charges, lessened voters confidence in her and was a large scandal that had the possibility to alter the results. So, the internet allowed the emails, one: to be sent, and two: to be publicly distributed allowing the opposing campaign, Trump, to capitalize on the situation.

In addition to this, the internet allows voters to be more informed. So that they are not voting blindly, the internet offers a variety of easily accessible sources to provide more information on what the parties stand for and the opposing view, therefore providing a more nuanced understanding and more informed and accurate voting.

The internet also allows politicians to gain a following and campaign online. A campaign webpage which allows interaction within the party is highly beneficial so as to strengthen the confidence of followers. It also gives the followers a voice due to online discussions which drastically impacts how campaigns are run.

The internet allows campaigns to be more interactive, voters to be more educated so as to influence the result of the election, and allows information, both good and bad, to be

Juliette & Janet (the Jet Plane)

QUESTION:
How did the internet change the availability of information?

ANSWERS:
The internet changed the availability of information by creating websites and/or programs that were freely available to everyone. The video mentions this while Peter talks about freely accessing museum resources, and how he "can access them without leaving the house". A MacLean's article also touches on how a student avoided the expensive costs of tuition for University, and instead took a complete course online for half the price.

Additionally, at the time, more people were willing to learn because of how accessible it was. The aforementioned article describes how Americans in their 40s were more willing to take courses because they were online, the majority of these courses being applied sciences and technology.

This shows how information had become more available via the internet, and how more people could thereof access it.

Sarah and Melody

QUESTION:
How did the internet make the production and distribution of goods easier?

ANSWERS:

The interent allowed consumers purchase goods at times convinient to them at cheaper prices. It also reduces the time a customer has to spend shopping for something because they don't have to go the store and look through all the products, this is especially useful if a store is far away. With online shopping products are easily shipped to the person's home, while aslo giving the person a wider range of products to explore.

The internet also allows manufacturers to produce things at a cheaper price because they produce less waste and make things at a much faster rate. Additionally, with online stores they do not have to have all the products in store, making for the production of products to be more customizable as customers are able to describe what they want.

QUESTION: (Payton & Alex)

How have people considered to be great men and women used the internet to change the way they get their message across?

ANSWER:

The internet allows influential people to get their message across to millions of followers in seconds. Before the internet existed, people had much smaller platforms, especially without social media, and had smaller fan bases hearing their message. They had fewer sources to use to speak out. Now, influential people can grow their following in various ways such as "publicity stunts" that will attract attention to them, such as being seen with a certain person. Immediately, they have the whole world looking at them and listening to what they have to say. Not only are they talking about themselves, news articles, tweets and youtube videos are also made about what they have to say, which was not the case before the internet, and they are reaching a much larger audience.

by: Emma, Olivia, Jasmine

QUESTION:
How does the production and use of the internet influence the way we approach the issue of climate change?

ANSWERS:
The internet can be used as a tool for spreading awareness and education on climate change and ways we can help our planet. For example, (as Mr. Fredenburg suggested) the Shine app we used during school this year, which allowed us to monitor and limit our environmental emissions. In addition, people are able to donate money, contact local environmental organizations, or reach out to members of government to share their concerns or ideas. The internet is the platform that allows for this to happen.

In contradiction, the production of data centres, which allows the internet to work, are detrimental to the environment as it causes pollution contributing to climate change.

Overall, the use of the internet has more benefits than negatives when thinking about the climate change.

Caroline and Cindy
QUESTION:
To what extent did the internet contribute to the development of new technology that we value today?
ANSWERS:
It is less that the internet contributed to the development of new technology, and more that the internet created new and more efficient ways to do things previously done by other technologies. Online video streaming services have replaced physical copies of movies and TV shows. Online storage services have replaced flash drives.
