He tells her that in addition to the basket of food she is bringing her, she should pick flowers for her and she obliged. This gave the wolf time to get to the grandmother's house sooner and he locked her in the closet. Then, he pretended to be the girl's grandmother and tried to trick her in order to eat her. But, the girl held strong and didn't run away because even though she was afraid for her and her grandma, she couldn't leave her without knowing she was safe. And then they ended up being saved by a lumberjack, the two ending up safe and together. This text really focuses on overcoming fear for the safety of you and others. It shows that human nature can be good and strong when you are in danger. The tornado takes them from their home in Kansas to the magical Land of Oz. From there, they embark on a quest with three new friends that she meets along the way to see the Wizard of Oz. When they reach him, he returns her home and end up fulfilling her three friends' wishes. However, I am just going to focus on one of the friends, the Cowardly Lion. He is afraid of everything due to him lacking confidence in himself throughout the entire story. Once he reaches the Wizard, though, his wish is to no longer be a coward. So, the Wizard of Oz gives him a drink of courage, which leads to an immediate increase in self-esteem, no longer allowing him to be afraid of everything. He immediately declares that he is "full of courage", even as he didn't know that the dose of courage he received was actually a placebo dose. This shows so much about human nature, it shows that fear often stems from a lack of courage to face something. Being unsure in yourself means that you are afraid, and that is common. What is also common, however, is that the cure to that lack of courage is also within you, you don't need anything special. Just like with the lion, everyone has that self-esteem deep inside, it is just waiting to be released and used to stand up and face the fear. However, the woman desires to pick the vegetable flower from the garden and despite her fear for the witch that owns it, one day does, then followed by her husband who gets caught. The witch says that they can eat as much of the vegetable as they want, as long as they promise their first born child to her, which he agrees to. Eventually, they have a child that was named Rapunzel and the witch then locks in the tower as her prisoner. For years, she was kept up there by herself, aside from the witch who would climb up her hair to get in the lone window. Years later, though, a prince passes by the tower and then falls in love with Rapunzel, asking her to marry him. She agrees to this, and despite her tremendous fear of the witch, she hatches a plan to leave, that was then found out by the witch and ruined, injuring the prince and leaving Rapunzel still trapped. She stayed trapped for years, raising twins that had been conceived by the prince and her. One day, though, the prince came back and rescued them, living happily ever after. This book demonstrated many things about human nature, including that fear can be paralyzing and make you do things that you would never do otherwise (the man agreeing to give away his first born). It also shows that in the face of fear, you should stand up for yourself and those you love for (just as Rapunzel did in her first attempt to escape, and then the second attempt that was successful). Fear is a tool many use to control and manipulate others, but you can't let this happen.
