Drew Davis Assignment #1

2. Quitting saves time by eliminating wasteful things you do. Also it helps your mental state because it can give you allow you a fresh start on certain things such as hard models. Quitting is a lesson of life too because it teaches you to quit making un useful choices in life such as fighting about something that can be worked out if you quit and think. Finally quitting is important because it gives you rest and allows your body to relax and become calm.

3. One example occurs when the author is talking about your mental state and says ''Imagine for example that you are running a website or blog. You've been working hard at it for years and at one point it was very successful. However, a few bad marketing strategies, some bad publicity and a period where you didn't upload anything new for a while have all conspired to leave your site a shell of its former self – no longer making you any money or even bringing in any customers''.

4. And as well as knowing when to quit for good, it's also important to know when to quit for a while – and how to switch off. If you're someone who brings work home with them, then it's probably because you're leaving unfinished tasks at the office that you can't stop thinking about. What you need to learn to do is to acknowledge that you've run out of time, that you aren't going to complete that task today, and that you need to switch off and recharge.

6. To quit something you are doing sometimes that is wasteful or pointless and to also relax and take breaks on stressful things in life.

Drew Davis Assignment number 51. Done2. The average final round reached IQ was higher for Quartile 4 than for Quartile 1, and in quartile 4 Grit was higher than it was in Quartile 1.3. In the graph on page 164 under the heading it says ''Angela Duckworth and her colleagues studied the quality of grit in a variety of groups'', and then it talks about the findings for one group in the study. This is informal because the author talks only about statistics.4. On page.159 in the first paragraph the author uses entertainment because he is telling a story a story about what happened in the past using glowing terms such as one of the most extraordinary odysseys in the history of math.5. The author uses persuasion on pg.161 by talking about how we need to keep on trying our best to accomplish goals because we can succeed and then the author gives examples of success such as the moon landing or Thomas Edison.6. The main idea is to persevere in life but mainly grit if you study it because it could be the next big thing.

So one day I was sitting at home because there was a snow cancelation. My dad had to leave because he had to take my brother to the doctor. Ten minutes after he was supposed to leave he came back in saying that he couldn’t get out because there was at least 3ft. of snow, behind and in front of his vehicle. So I went outside hoping to find the shovel so that I could shovel it. But it wasn’t there. So I had to think quickly otherwise my brother would be late. It was freezing so I wanted to get done as fast as I could so I grabbed the strongest broom that we had in the house and began sweeping the snow away. It was hard work but I was determined to get it done. It took me 20 minutes to get it cleaned away from the garage so I could get the shovel. I finally got it and finished in 10 minutes. I had to use a lot of patience that I did not know I had.

Failure, Rejection, Success: the J.K. Rowling Story

1.) The turning point for J.K. Rowling in regards to her writing and getting her manuscript published, was when the editor at Bloomsbury Publishing company read the first 3 chapters and had his daughter read them too and she loved them. The article states, “Finally, the editor at Bloomsbury Publishing company sat down to read the manuscript. And so did the editor’s 8 year-old daughter. The little girl loved the opening chapters, and begged to read the whole thing. This made the publisher agree to publish Rowling’s novel.” This shows the turning point in regards to her writing and getting her manuscript published.

2.) An example on how the author informs the reader is when, “The Harry Potter series has earned over $400 million in book sales, and the last movie alone earned $476 million dollars in ticket sales… on opening weekend. She was the first female to become a billionaire author, not that many authors make it that far in the first place.” This is an example on how the author gave facts to the reader.

3.) An example of how the author entertained the reader is when they tell some of the facts about J.K. Rowling, like when she got married and had a baby and the marriage failed.

4.) An example of how the author persuaded the reader is when, they state facts about the book and tell how much the daughter of the publisher liked it.
