My first reason for why Romeo is to blame is because in act 3, scene 1, Romeo blames everything on fate or fault and doesn't take responsibility for his actions after killing tybalt instead of telling the prince. “Oh, I am fortune’s fool!" (Shakespeare 128)

In act 3, scene 1, Romeo jumps inbetween Tybalt and Mercutio's fight, killing Mercutio when he gets in the way. “Hold Tybalt! Good Mercutio!” “I am hurt.” (Shakespeare 87-88). If he stayed out of it instead of trying to intervene, Mercutio wouldn't have been killed in the first place,

When Romeo gets to Juliets tomb, he drinks poison he had gotten from an apothecary to kill himself. Instead of asking Friar Lorence about Juliet, He dosen't think twice and drinks the poison in act 5, scene 3, “Here’s to my love! [drinks] O true apothecary!

Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.” (Shakespeare 119-120). Before he dies he realized his mistake.

Others may say that Romeo is not to blame. Some think that the parents/family are to blame because without the feud there would have been no problem. This is wrong becuase if Romeo hadn't acted impulsively and killed Tybalt, or never drank the poison, he and Juliet would have been happily together. This is why Romeo was to blame. He was irresponsible for the death of both him and Juliet because of his impulsive and irresponsible behavior.
