I think they should not be protected. I think they should not be protected because it seemed like there was not enough food for all of the wolves. In the documentary there was not enough food for every wolf in the park. If there is to much they would eat everything there then, some will die because there is not enough food. If they make the animals they eat get underpopulated it will end up changing a lot of things. If they get to overpopulated it will change the ecosystem there by quite a bit. If they were protected it will make them overpopulated then that will happen. When they are not protected this wont happen unless they make limits on how much you can kill. If the population gets to low then they should make them get protected by the act. It will increases the amount of food for the wolves their so they don't search everywhere for food.

It affects an ecosystem because say there is not enough carrying capacity for how much hawks there are so since the hawk is the predator of the squirrel which is the prey so then, the squirrels will have very low amounts because they are all getting eaten by the hawks. If there are too many predators they will eat everything like what happened in the bear activity. When there is less food in the ecosystem is ends up making more competition. Sometimes if the weather changes to much the competition gets much higher because the animals prey will start to die off. When there are to much predators the competition also grows. This is how an ecosystem can be affected by population and carrying capacity.

They have changed in the Yellowstone area because when the wolves were taken out their prey started to grow in population then started to eat the willows. When the willows started to get eaten the beavers could not make many shelters so some started to die off. Elk would also starve because they would all the eat willows. The beavers would need the willows for winter and food. One time the beavers got overpopulated for the carrying capacity of their habitat. The trees could not grow fast enough for how much beavers and elk there were in Yellowstone. Ticks also affect the ecosystem. This is how the population in Yellowstone has been changed and it still is changing around today. Balance in the ecosystem is what keeps this from happening.
http://www.bitsofscience.org/wolf-yellowstone-predators-forests-4492/
Graph

I think the balance of nature hypothesis is good. I think the deer would be better off with the wolves because you don’t want the deer to get overpopulated. I think the hypothesis is good because whenever an animal starve it shows that the ecosystem is not balanced and there is not enough food for all of the one species that is overpopulated. You determine if an ecosystem is balanced when there is just enough prey and just enough predators because if you had to much predators then the predators will start to die of starvation but when you have to much prey some of the prey will start to starve. The amount should have the right amount of predators and prey. I think the deer is better off with the wolves because with no wolves the deer population will get overpopulated. With the wolves it allows the deer to get food easily and it makes the ecosystem better to avoid overpopulation.

Physical and biological changes can change the ecosystem because the ecosystem has a carrying capacity of a certain amount of species. The population of wolves can affect elk because the wolves are carnivores and are the predators to elk. The elk are herbivores so they do not really do much to the wolves. If there are too little elk some of the wolves will start to starve. It can disrupt the ecosystem if there are too many predators or too little predators and to much prey. The wolves can effect the population of willows because the wolves eat the elk then the elk eat the willows. The wolves are limited to how much elk there are and the elk are limited to how much willows there are. Weather can also disrupt the ecosystem because if there is bad weather in the winter some of the animals won't be able to go out and get food while the bad weather is happening.
