For decades plastic pollution has been one of the most devastating and impactful causes of climate change, reduction of biodiversity and eutrophication. The contribution to the overall harm that food packaging is doing to the environment is delicate subject, but one that isn’t taken lightly if executed carelessly. However, with the use of 100% recyclable, sustainable and compostable tableware drastic changes to the environmental impacts from the use of food packaging can be reduced.

https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s11367-018-1500-6.pdf

Sporting clubs have an enormous responsibility by giving everyone a safe working environment for both paid and volunteer workers. The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is obliged by the Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation to continually work for advancements in WHS. Sporting clubs must be able to identify risks, control risks, assess hazards and review control measures which are four important steps in managing WHS risks. For all sporting events clubs must follow all WHS laws and include safety management into their operations.

https://www.sportaus.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/1024040/WHS-Policy.pdf

The Queensland (QLD) government states that if a business is selling or serving alcohol in most scenarios, they must hold a liquor licence or permit. For a one-time occasion like in the event management industry most of the time applying for a permit to supply and serve alcohol is required. The Liquor Regulation 2002 states that the application of an extended hours permit must be made 21 days before the event. If trading was to continue from midnight to 5 am there is a post-midnight permit that is essential to sell and serve alcohol legally. The liquor laws will require payment for the permit and organising it 21 days before the event poses a challenge for the event industry.

https://www.business.qld.gov.au/industries/hospitality-tourism-sport/liquor-gaming/liquor/licensing/applications/permits

Ensuring that there is a loud enough and good quality Public Address (PA) system is both important for an event to run smoothly, but also challenging. In certain environments the sound quality of a PA system can sometimes be compromised by background noises and echoing. These expensive systems require the bare minimum of appropriate cables, speakers, microphones, and amplifiers to all work in sync for a guest speaker just to talk into the microphone. PA systems can be complicated to setup and run without anything going wrong as there is a lot of knowledge and parts needed for things to work correctly.

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s13636-018-0126-8

Indigenous rounds are done to recognize First Nations people’s contributions to the Australian Football League (AFL) and Australia. Many AFL players show tremendous passion for the round and the message that the round symbolizes. It increases awareness for that First Nations people face and educates anyone that watches the game. There are indigenous talent pathways to help future First Nations star shine in the AFL by selecting 25 under 15-year-olds to represent QLD in the AFL national Indigenous Program. There is a trend of programmes in AFL and other sports across the nation to recognize and assist First Nations people.

https://www.aflq.com.au/indigenous-community/#:~:text=Australian%20football%20is%20the%20sport,9%25%20of%20our%20AFL%20list.

Recently evidence has shown due to needing to isolate during the Covid 19 pandemic that humans socially interacting with other humans is a critical part of maintaining good mental health. Social sports can develop social relationships with other athletes, spectators and coaches giving more opportunity for people to interact with other people.

Any organization hosting an event with food leftovers has an opportunity to help up to 14% of Australians that are impacted by food insecurity. Food care programmes like Oz harvest, Fresh NED and Foodmate assist Australians in need by donating unwanted, but edible food to at-risk households. Food like leftover bread and meats are the most donated perishable food, but the food care programmes have a greater capacity to stock non-perishable foods. Donating food to these programmes gives them an opportunity to interact with vulnerable groups in the community. Building a rapport which will help them collect important data to analyse what changes will be needed to improve food assistance services. This could be a very positive opportunity in the event industry to start disposing of their food leftovers more sustainably.

https://onlinelibrary-wiley-com.libraryproxy.griffith.edu.au/doi/pdfdirect/10.1111/ajr.12398

The AFL offseason is 7-month long period of no games played for some teams and can be difficult to find motivation to stay in shape. Most local AFL players try and find another sport to play to keep up their level of fitness and social circle, but unlike most sports there isn’t really any AFL events/leagues to join in the offseason. This means for players that aren’t really interested in playing another sport the is an opportunity in the event management industry to potentially host a summer AFL event that athletes could look forward to in their offseason.

https://anybodysfan.com/why-afl-winter-sport/#:~:text=Footy%20players%20continue%20their%20training,programs%20for%20young%20upcoming%20players.
