Year: 1820

Summary: The Missouri Compromise was the compromise when Henry Clay declared Maine as a free state and Missouri as a slave state, keeping the balance between slave states and free states. Clay also declared that slave states should not be in the lands of Louisiana territory except for Missouri, making this border become known as the Missouri Compromise.

Explanation: Both regions benefited from this event as it kept balance and organization between the North and South.

Significance: I feel as this compromise would have kept peace, if they continued to lead with this idea. Since they did not keep up with this idea and wanting to create more states, making it harder to keep up the rule of balance.

Year: 1850

Summary: This compromise came right after the Mexican-American War. It admitted California as a free state, upsetting the balance between the North and the south, the Mexican Cession was divided into New Mexico and Utah as well. Leading to the system of 'Popular Sovereignty', letting people vote on what they want they want.

Explanation: I feel as if the south benefited more as most of the states that were newly admitted chose to be a slave state.

Significance: This event led to even more division since people could now choose whether they wanted to be a slave state or not and if a state chose to be one, the balance would be more off.

I feel as if this was a good decision as people's voices may now be heard.

In the 1850s Sectionalism was getting way bigger.

Summary: Sectionalism was the feeling of great pride and joy in their own state instead the country rather than showing that great pride and joy towards their country in whole.

Explanation: I think none of the regions benefited from it because rather than thinking about how something would affect the Country as a whole, they’re only thinking about their section and they’re continuing to go against each other.

Signifiance: The Growth of Sectionalism definitely has a big impact and significance to the lead-up to the Civil War because during the sectionalism the South had Slaves and the North didn’t support the usage of slaves nor wanted the South to use Slaves which caused a huge conflict since slaves was one of the biggest money makers towards the South.

When they told him that he couldn't be free, he sued and ended up losing the case because they claimed he couldn't use because he wasn't a person.

Explanation: This benefited the south because since they didn't consider slaves as people and realized the couldn't sue, it gave them more power.

Significance: This event was unjustful and gave bad rep to the north and it showed unfairness towards black people, creating a significant divide.

He then took over a federal arsenal to begin his raid, seizing weapons and giving them to slaves to fight back. In the end he was captured and tried for treason.

Explanation: The south benefited more from this because event because Brown helped the slaves rebel against the mistreatment from slave owners.

Significance: This event is empowering to me.

Year: 1861-65

Summary: Now that the Confederate States of America have been created and South Carolina has been seceded, problems have arose within the country. When President Lincoln sent supplies to South Carolina, the Confederate States fired at the Fort, with that Lincoln called to fight back to stop the rebellion.

Explanation: It benefited neither because now the country is at war and a country should work together instead of being split like America was at this time.

Significance: This event is interesting because some states had to choose which side they wanted to be on. This event led to the civil war because the shots fired onto Fort Sumter started the whole war between the States and the Confederate States of America.
