I am a Professor of Food Technology at the School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and current Director of Centre for Academic Excellence (CDAE), USM.

I've been teaching in USM for almost 25 years. The journey has been colourful, exciting and challenging.

I'm very passionate about learning and education. I believe our role as educators goes beyond transmitting knowledge — our role is to nurture our students, the future nation builders, to become lifelong learners — to teach them the skills of 'learn how to learn' and to teach them the appreciation and the love for knowledge. 

As Socrates said, 
I cannot teach anybody anything; I can only make them think.

I'll be facilitating the workshop on Tuesday. I'll be sharing my own practical experience of having my courses online on various platforms

I am a senior lecturer from History Section, School of Distance Education, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Since my first experience of teaching as a school teacher, my passion in teaching & learning has never come to an end. It has been flourishing even more as I attended seminars & workshop to enhance those skills. Apart from that, hopefully through this workshop, I could help my department to improve the quality of our online short courses (3 months) that have been conducted under the Pendidikan Berterusan programme for many years already.

WHO are you?
I am Mohd. Asyraf Mansor, you can call me Asyraf or Am. 

WHERE do you come from?
I am a senior lecturer from the Mathematics Department, School of Distance Education. Geographically, I am originally from Sarawak. 

WHICH mode of learning is better, “Conventional” or “Online Learning”?
As a distance learning educator, hands down, I will diplomatically say Online Learning. 


HOW long have you been in the academic world?
If in a game, I can consider myself as a newbie. I’ve been teaching in USM for about 11 months. 


WHAT is my aspiration about being an online educator?
I hope I can develop my own online course, obviously better than Coursera, Data Camp and many more. I would love to create an interactive online courses so that my potential students will follow it religiously. :) 


WHY did you join this course?
I would like to drink some wisdom from Prof Karim and his team about the effective tool to enhance the existing online program in my school. I would like to enhance and equip myself with tonnes of skills required to revamp our online courses a.k.a “Pembelajaran Berterusan”. In addition, I would love to share all the inputs given during this course to all my colleague is SDE, USM. 


As said by Ananth Agarwal,

Online Learning is like a rising tide, it’s going to lift all the boat.

So, it is the new tsunami of education, as we can learn at our own pace in an interactive and engaging way. (While sipping Starbucks Coffee)

I’m the author of Take Charge! Parents book in which I share some tips and techniques to manage kids behaviour. The approaches I used are Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Positive Discipline and Influential Language.

I work from home, homeschool my kids, conduct parenting workshops, write and looking forward to conduct online classes from home soon. 

I believe online will be ‘the’ platform for knowledge sharing very very soon, thus every person who has something to share should start exploring this platform.

I wish to learn as much as I can in this workshop and apply it successfully, InsyaaAllah.
