         <description><![CDATA[<div>One thing that we do in Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies (at least in First-Year Writing) is to use portfolios for assessment. So if we worry that it's difficult to assess these various competencies across LBST classes, I wonder if the portfolio would be a way to do that?<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One thing that I struggle with is just plain reading. Forget about these other competencies (for a second!).&nbsp;<br>Many first-year students have trouble differentiating between an article in a popular magazine, a scholarly journal article, and anything that is bound is called a "novel."<br>I don't think that our students are coming to us as freshmen with much experience as reading.<br><br></div>]]></description>
