Meriwether Lewis wanted to adventure away from his hometown and he was good friends with Thomas Jefferson. He was offered to go by Congress/Thomas Jefferson and then he enlisted his friend William Clark to accompany him on the journey. One of the main reasons that Lewis picked Clark was because Clark took some mapmaking classes so he had experiences while Lewis did not have any experienceThey were motivated by god and gold because they were looking to discover new species of plants and animals. They were looking for anything of any value on the way and finally they were looking for a waterway to the pacific ocean.

The causes for this expedition was France was in need of money after the French and Indian war in 1762. The U.S. made a treaty with the Spanish that would allow the U.S. to keep goods in Louisiana. In response to the actions made by France and Spain, Thomas Jefferson sent future president James Monroe to France to help Livingston in the trade talks. The U.S. agreed to pay over $11 Million and in exchange they would get the 828,000 square miles of land called the Louisiana territory. After that Thomas Jefferson made an offer to Meriwether Lewis to lead the expedition west of the Mississippi river. When Lewis was offered he would accept and then would enlist William Clark to accompany him on the expedition.

Some of the positives of this expedition was it helped the colonists find new species like the Pronghorn, the Grizzly Bear, the Red Fox, Clark's Nutcracker, western Rattlesnake, and many, many more. Also it gave the colonists more space to develop as a country and let some of them even liver their own lives, but with positives there are always negatives. Some of the negatives of this expedition was that lots of people lost their lives because of the fights they got into with the Natives. Also the land that they so to say "purchased" was already inhabited by other humans like the natives.

What happened when Lewis and Clark made it to the territory. Codie Haasch

The explorers were already on the same continent they explored so they did not have to spend as much money as many other explores because they did not have to use any ships. Once they got to the newly purchased area they took their time in exploring the new area. Lewis and Clark discovered lots of new species as they were going through the territory. They also met and traded with over 50 tribes on the journey like the Shoshone, the Mandan, the Minitari, the Blackfeet, the Chinook, and the Sioux. Some of the Natives had met “White Men” before and were friendly and open to trade while others were wary of Lewis and Clark's intentions and were openly hostile. Lewis and Clark went through and told the Natives that the land belonged to them and that they would offer the Natives military protection in exchange for peace. Lewis and Clark even were going to pay a Native American to tour them along on the adventure. My explorers actions toward the Natives were positive and that is why they got to trade with the Natives.

Some of the cultural blending that was created was the colonists lived in the East are now moving West to go to the new land that Lewis and Clark had explored, but when the colonists go onto the land that the Natives already lived on. This impacted the Natives because they would get kicked off of their land that they have been on for centuries before the colonists even arrived at the new world. The natives would get ripped off when it came to trading because they could not speak the colonists language, the treaties would be in favor of the colonists, and the Natives were moved into reservations so that they could not move around like they normally would.

My explorer did not claim the land for my "kingdom" because the land was already owned by the U.S. The journey lead to more colonies in America being created. Countries decide to colonize if they want to have a central area that they can go to. Also they can have more land outside of their own country. An example is when the British created the 13 colonies. People would move to the colonies if they want more room to farm, if there is not enough space to build, or to get out of religious or political bonds. When countries colonize the natives get their land taken away from them. The natives will sometimes get really mad and they might even start a war like the French and Indian war, the Dakota war, and the Sioux wars.
