The genre of sci-fi (science fiction) will be used as the prinicpal inspiration for the diptych posters. Through the protagonists journey, the audience experience an emotional story with themes of love, empathy, sacrifice, death, and "the human desire for exploration and discovery" (Ci-Lovers). Etched wood (present in this photograph) represents human presence and design. The aspect of human presence is present in the common practice of engraving on trees and wood fences to write one's name. The aspect of design is present in the history of wood engravings. Historically, it was a common method of printmaking in 15th and 16th century Europe.

The lines and textures of these wood engravings as well as the lines and textures of the rusted iron can be used as a stylized display font in the finalized poster designs.

Contemporary sci-fi films often use sans-serif, round, horizontally stretched, and minimalist fonts in order to effectively represent themes of loneliness (living in a large universe) and futurism. This font included in Ali's article "The Best Space Fonts for Otherworldly Designs" perfectly captures this essence.

In this image, Miller, is a planet covered entirely in water. In this scene, water represents exploration and overcoming the impossible (planet exploration). Several lakes in Ontario (my home province) have a similar dark and murky appearance that could be photographed in order to recreate this unfamiliar planet scene.
