General Zaroff is a very demented and messed up character from "The Most Dangerous Game." Zaroff was practically raised to believe that murder, or just killing of animals, was okay in any way. Killing his father's prize turkeys got him praise, instead of punishment. Usually, killing so carelessly like that is a sign of a murderer to be. Even though Zaroff was obviously insane, and not much of a very good person, he was still an interesting character of the book. His politeness towards Rainsford made it a surprise when it turned out he was a killer.

His pg 21"training school", is more like a dungen where peaple train agenst there will.Also, Zaroff acts like it is all just a game and that it is not a big deal.

Rainsford is a very adventurous big-game hunter, who on his trip to the Amazon, fell off of his boat. You can first tell that he has great survival skills, when it came to swimming to shore and saving his strength, and tracking through the jungle, finding footprints. It seems he can handle any challenge that is brought to him, even when a cannibalistic man wants to try to hunt him. Rainsford bravely kept his nerve, and agreed, seeing as it would be the only way to make it back alive. I find it interesting that he was able to remain calm. Most people would have gone mad knowing they were being hunted like that. I guess Rainsford's years of fighting in World War 1 helped him to know about the "battle grounds" and how to react to his surroundings. In conclusion, Rainsford is a subtle, well-trained man. He has grounded morals on hunting, and the world around him.

For example, "i wanted the ideal animal to hunt," explained the general. "So i said: 'what are the attributes of an ideal quarry?' and the answer was, above all, it must be able to reason." "but no animal can reason," objected Rainsford. " My dear fellow,"said the general, " there is one that can" pg. #20 Also, Zaroff starves his hounds so he can let them go to chase after his hunt.

Sanger Rainsford is a very adventurous, big-game hunter in "the Most Dangerous Game." He and his friend Whitney had gone on a trip to the Amazon to hunt the jaguars. Late at night Rainsford had fallen of the boat into the sea. He swam his way to shore with the little strength he had. Throughout the book Rainsford faced many other challenges as well, such as being hunted down by General Zaroff. No one Zaroff has trapped has been able to win his game, but Rainsford did. Another challenge Rainsford faced was when he got his leg stuck in the quicksand, he dug his way out but ended up creating a Burmese Tiger pit to trap General Zaroff. In the end Rainsford has shown how strong he can be, after he defeated Zaroff.

First they both started out hunting animals and both understood the men were to me kill to defend their country. On page 20-21 they decuss hunting and how men not in war is murder. To be honest i think that this theme can be wrong and right because war is hard and to Zaroff was a lot better, but I don't believe that it is a reason to trap men and kill them for fun, war should not be a reason for that. In conclusion, Zaroff and Ransofrd had a huge opposite on the hunting and point of war.

On page 20, General Zaroff states; "The animal had nothing but his legs and his instinct. Instinct is no match for reason." In conclusion, reason is very important in the game of hunting, but you would still need good instincts to yourself in order to survive.

First, when Rainsford had to be put up against General Zarroff in hunting it reflects on a human hunting an animal.

The main theme of the story is a classic among our world. Fear takes over our thoughts, and effects our actions. Reasoning can be a factor, in how fear effects our minds. It's a bit morbid, really. How easily we can be controlled. Our minds cloud over with our worst horrors, and we lost it. You won't think straight. You will lose your nerve, go completely mad, and the anxiety becomes too much. Fear, is what I like to call, the center of the universe. The unknown darkness, because everyone is scared of something. To be completely honest, Rainsford's fear of being hunted by a crazed cannibalistic monster, is normal. Who wouldn't be scared of that?

The idea that The Island is a great concept. First, towards the end of the story Rainsford has a slight chance of leaving. Either to jump off the island or to eaten by dogs. For example on page 27, we see the the text says " Twenty feet below him the sea rumbled and hissed. Rainsford hesitated. He heard the hounds. Then he leaped for out in to sea". To be honest, I think that The Island is a great because the whole story basically takes place on a island. In conclusion, you either hunt or die on a island, you never know if your going to leave.

i beleive the theme of the story is hunt or be hunted due to the fact that the story revolves around one person hunting another also rainsford has to deal with his emotions and stay calm to keep his head clear while trying to outrun general zaroff so it could also fall into man vs man or man vs self as seen on page 25 he says to himself "i will not lose my nerve i will not lose my nerve" its man vs self i beleive its relevent to the story to the pure fact that he needs to remain calm even though hes under so much pressure to think straight.

First, when Zaroff told Rainsford that he had to be hunted and survive to get off the island it reflects on a man hunting a animal. For example, on page 27 " He shinnied up a tree excitedly and looked back", its like what a real animal would do if it were being hunted. To be honest, I think this theme can be acceptable because, it means the same thing as a human hunting an animal. In conclusion, the idea that man versus instinct is a theme that can be reasoned with.

The idea that the jungle is more of a trapped off closed space is kind of a smart way to think of it. To think the Shiptrap island is more of a 'trap' or 'box' that Rainsford was put in, like the 'trap' or 'box' that he was put in when he entered Zaroff's hunt. No matter which way he goes, there's more jungle and Zaroff to be found. Like when Rainsford wakes up the next day on the shore, all he can see in jungle brush surrounded by water with jagged rocks, and no safe way out but in. On page 15, "Dense jungle came down to the very edge of the cliffs. What perils that tangle of trees and underbrush might hold for him did not concern Rainsford just then." To be honest, I think using the jungle as a form of box for Rainsford hunt was a bit smart.

@JasminStencel

I found you comment "Darkness represents the setting and gives the short story a creepy edge", to be a great way to give someone a small idea about the story. First I agree about darkness being a moif, because a lot of the story takes place when its dark. Furthermore, saying that darkness is a great motif because the story starts and ends when its dark outside. Also, describing what happens at the end of the story would be good too. In conclusion, your response about darkness was very descriptive.

Darkness plays a subtle role in this story. Darkness is the unknown, and what lingers within is, well, dark. You don't know what to expect. What you'll see, what you'll hear. It could be anything. Especially when you're being hunted by a manic cannibal. I would be petrified. Blood also plays a subtle, yet important role. The few hints of it they give, "blood-warm waters, red-lipped smile, stained crimson, etc." they are simple details, really. Yet they add the effect of gore, thoughts of death, and suspense to the story.

Darkness plays an important part in this role. Throughout the story its a dark part when Rainsford finds out Zaroff kills his own kind. That his not something you hear everyday. If I heard that I would be shocked and scared for my life and never want to think about Zaroff again. But he played it cool. Another part of darkness is at throughout the plots when Rainsford sets those traps and hurts his shoulder, kills the best dog and kills Ivan. Also when he sneaks into Zaroff's room and kills him. In conclusion, I think that darkness plays a great part in this role.

The idea of the jungle is the is where most of the things happened in the story such as, having "The Most Dangerous Game" competeion. They hunted at the jungle was jaguars. Then that where Zaroff house was too. I think the author made the setting good because it made us keep on reading more and more throughout the story such as the jungle.

The idea that darkness shrouds Ship-Trap island accentuates the shadowy recesses that lie behind logic and reason is a great concept. First, the lighthouse guiding ships to the island is an example of the darkness of the island shadows the logic and reason of the ships. For example, When Whitney says "The moist black velvet air" shows that he can sense the "darkness". I like this theory about ship trap island. In conclusion, this is great theory.
