Hello! We are Sara and Clara (Sara’s mentor on the @fab.connecther initiative). We were looking for a role model who embodies resilience, courage, and determination — someone whose journey reflects the very spirit of #Fab&Fierce. Maria Luís Gameiro stands out not only for her achievements as an off-road driver, but also for her ability to break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and persist in high-pressure, competitive environments.

Her career in off-road motorsport demands technical expertise, strategic thinking, physical endurance, and mental strength. These qualities align perfectly with the values we want to highlight in our project: confidence, perseverance, continuous learning, and fearless ambition. She proves that women can thrive in demanding industries and redefine what leadership looks like.

Moreover, she supports Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro and donated 1€ per competitive kilometre covered on the Rally Dakar to this cancer charity institute. As a team, we see in Maria Luís Gameiro a symbol of what becomes possible when compassion meets discipline and when women dare to claim space in arenas where they have historically been underrepresented.

Through this project, we aim to celebrate not only her achievements, but also the broader message she represents: that being “Fab & Fierce” means owning your path, pushing boundaries, leading with strength and authenticity and doing good for others.

Lucía, Elena and Erica make up Team LEE3, and their project honors Margaret A. Wilcox, a pioneering inventor whose work contributed to the development of the automatic washing machine 👩‍🔬✨

In their card, they highlighted how her innovation transformed everyday domestic tasks and improved daily life for millions of people, showing that engineering can truly change the world.

But they didn’t stop there…

🛠️ They designed a custom vinyl tote bag featuring a washing machine illustration and integrated a FabriXiao with a neopixel ring to replicate the circular motion of the washing drum 🔄💡

A project combining history, electronics, textile design and programming in one creative piece.

It's not the first time that David Baur, one of the Construction Lecturers at Edinburgh College, collaborates with Art & Design students.

This time David helped Paloma and Ava to bring to life their design of the award for Creative Edinburgh. He put their vision together, taking care of the manufacture side of it, cutting and assembling all the wood pieces [with support from the Art & Design Learning Assistants with the BITMAP laser engrave on several sides within our FABLAB].

Thank you again David! The students think you are a legend!

This workshop was a AMAZING experience! We choose the plastic to recycle and do a personalized pendent. Heat the plastic with a heat gun and it turn out incredible.

Last Tuesday, April 14th, we had the opportunity to welcome a group of girls between the ages of 8 and 14.
We made pendants for necklaces, bracelets, keychains, or earrings with pieces of plastic.
Thank you to all the girls who came, it was a super fun and enjoyable afternoon spent with girls!
