Elementary and Secondary Schools were not made for all students and some had only private schools to go to which cost money, leaving out those who couldn't afford it. Kalamazoo School Case played a major role in defining public school education in this country. School Districts could now tax the public to support both high school and elementary schools. This is a very important event because it allows those who could not afford to get an education to be equal to those who were. A step forward in equality.

4. Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka

Brown vs. The Board of Education was a huge step in racial segregation in schools. It finally came to a perspective that having segregation between races was unequal and violated the Fourteenth Amendment. Even though after this passed, some people still didn't agree with desegregation and had some negative effects. Brown vs. The Board of Education was important because this made equal opportunities for whites and Blacks to attend the same schools, teachers, education. We still see today some segregation in some districts and neighborhoods but we see more people trying to change this.

The Progressive Education Association was pushed by John Dewey and other educators that tried to create new and experimental, and child centered schools in early 1900's. Progressive Education Association followed principles believing in that children should have freedom to develop naturally, A student's development must be measured scientifically, not just by grades, etc. I agree with these principles because some relate in which we do today. A lot of teaching today is based of group work, have hands-on experience and gearing towards away from just lecture based methods.

5. Lau v. Nichols

In the case of Lau vs. Nichols, schools must offer students sufficient instruction to be afforded an equal education opportunity. I believe this is important for not just Asian Americans but for Mexican Americans, and other races who have a tough time in a language that they are not fluent in. Equality is not Equity and we must find ways in which to help those who need it more. No student should be left behind because of a language barrier and teachers can find ways in which to help them.
