When Katniss asked Haymitch (her coach) for advice about how to win the hunger games, Haymitch said, "Don't die." This is clearly verbal irony/sarcasm because Katniss is obviously trying to avoid dying by asking for advice. Instead of giving a realistic piece of advice, he says something glaringly obvious, in an attempt at humor.
