The Punch Card, or Hollerith Card, was created initially by Herman Hollerith, founder of Tabulating Machine Company, IBM's precursor in the non-textual information systems. These cards were the predecessors of computer memories. They were actually invented to control looms in France in 1725. The technique was greatly refined before it finally gets implemented in computers. From 1900 to 1950, the Punch Cards were the main mean to input and storage data in institutional computers.

The ST-412 (similar, but way more expensive) with 10 MB storage capacity was released by the end of 1981. Both used MFM codification (at the time, already widely used in floppy disk drivers).

For short, the SD cards are small cards that are used mostly on cameras, smartphones, and GPSs as main memory units or to increase storage space in these devices. There are many versions, but the most known one is the micro-SD, the memory card that works with most of the smartphones.	The Secure Digital Card (SD Card) memory cards are an evolution of the technology MultiMediaCard (MMC). They add cryptography options and digital rights management (hence the Secure) to meet the demands of the music industry and a lock switch to disable content alterations or exclusion, much like the features available on the 3½ inches Floppy.

The Williams Tube is the computer memory created by Sir Frederick Williams in 1947.	The first computers made use of this type of cathode ray memory tubes, diode condenser and, also, delay line memory. The latter consisted of a 150cm tube filled with mercury, with a crystal quartz on each end. On one end to-be-added data travels in the form of mechanical vibrations and on the other the data gets re-converted. This was the first random access memory (RAM) device and was successfully used in lots of old computers. It could reach 1,2 milliseconds per instruction.

SSD (acronym to Solid-State Drive) is a type of device, without mechanical, moving pieces, for non-volatile digital data storage. They are typically built around a semiconductor integrated circuit – NAND Flash Memory – responsible for storage, unlike magnetic systems (as Hds and LTO tapes) or optical (like CDs and DVDs).

Cloud computing's concept refers to memory utilization, storage capacities, computer calculations and shared and interconnected servers through the Internet, following the principle of grid computing.	The data storage is done in servers that can be accessed from anywhere on Earth, at any time, not having the necessity of installation of any software or locally store any data. All program access, services, files are remote, through the Internet – thus, the name “Cloud”. The usage of this model (this environment) is more viable than the usage of physical memory.

The Japanese multinational Hitachi unveiled, some time ago, what is believed to be the future of data storage. They created a glass quartz chip that isn't just capable of store digital information for an undetermined time but also capable of supporting extreme temperatures and hostile conditions as a whole without degradation.

The prototype of the type is just 2 x 2 cm and a 2 millimeters width. It's made of glass quartz with a highly stable and resistant material used to make lab glass cups and other instruments. According to Phys.org, the glass chip is resistant to various chemical products and remains unaltered when exposed to high temperatures of flames and being heated to 1000° Celsius for, at least, two hours without any damaged. The researcher Kazuyoshi Torii from Hitachi said that he can store binary information inside the chip creating points inside a thin glass quartz pellicle. Since the computers are able to read the binary codes, the stored data will always be accessible.

The idea is having media support that can keep the information attached to it forever, something that allows us to secure information that could be lost in the future without a proper backup: fundamental information for religions, nations, cultures.
