I really do believe that to some extent, teachers DO have control over how students perceive themselves and others. We can control this perception by using complex instruction where students feel valued and their confidence is boosted.

I think teachers have some control over how students perceive themselves based on the environment created. However, there are so many factors out of the teacher's hands, that perhaps they don't actually have any control over how students perceive themselves and others. Creating an environment where students value each other and themselves should be a priority.

I think teachers are able to have an impact on how students perceive themselves. Everything about the classroom culture feeds into how each child feels they fit in the community. They consider how much value they have to the community, and they consider what they have to offer, and how others perceive their input. How the teacher models respectful interactions and how she sets up collaborative interactions within the classroom have an impact on how students perceive themselves and classmates.
