How Russia's government is structured

At the top of the government is The President, The Parliament, and the Prime Minister. The upper and lower houses make up the Parliament. The Upper House is made of the Federation Council and the Lower House is made up of the State Duma. The state Duma has 450 seats and the Federation Council has 170 seats. If the President and the Prime Minster are both dead the Chairman of the federation would assume the role of leader of Russia. Russia's government is part communist but is considered parliamentary democracy. While Russia still has some communist ideologies it is turning into a capitalist country.

Source: History.com

Citizens of Russia were assembling in the summer of 2017 but under their constitution they do not have the Freedom of Assembly. During recent protests many citizens were getting arrested. Some people were just walking past, "not even chanting slogans or carrying posters" but they still got detained. Everyone who got arrested spent 10-15 days in jail. The Russian "Constitutional Court ruled that criminal penalties for repeated breaches of public assembly regulations should not be applied in cases where protesters did not constitute a threat". citizens of Russia can no longer be anonymous on the internet. Now that people have to use their real names they are getting "imprisoned for extremist speech". In Russia there is no Freedom of Religion. Sine 2016 religious activist have been getting finned for not having special authorization for preach or even practice the religion.

Source: https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2018/country-chapters/russia#

In Russia the citizens get to elect their president by voting for him. In the recent 2018 elections Vladimir Putin won and became the president again. A president in Russia can rule for two consecutive terms. Putin has been switching in and out of Prime Minister and President for about 18 years and keep all the power in his hands. In the recent elections there were many political parties present. There were Candidates from the Communist Party, Nationalists, Liberals, and Independent Parties. Putin uses "geopolitics. This allows him to appeal to voters’ sense of national pride". Putin uses manipulation to get voters to keep voting for him.

Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/14/russias-election-2018-a-simple-guide.html

Citizens in Russia have many laws but few rights. Russians have a ton of laws they have to follow online. They can't be anonymous, they can't talk bad about the government, and they can't talk bad about the religion of Russia. Russians have no Freedom of Religion. That means unless they have special permission they have to follow the official religion of Russia. Photos of Russian military bases or airports is banned. Russia does not have a lot of tolerance for the LGBT community. "Homosexuality is not illegal in Russia. However, in 2012, Moscow Pride was banned for 100 years". Non traditional sexuality is often looked down upon in Russia

Source: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/russia/local-laws-and-customs

Russian Government VS American Government

Russia's government is very different from America's government. While they both have a President and Houses in the government that help rule their law and freedoms differ greatly. The two countries economic systems differ as well. In Russia what ever money you make goes to the government and the government gets to decide where the money goes and how much you get. In America you work for your own money but you pay taxes to the government. In America citizens have just about every freedom possible and the laws keep the citizens safe. In Russia the citizens have very little freedoms and have strict laws. Russia is very controlling over its people while American citizens have a more open and free life
