Forms of Collective Behavior - "Fads"

A fad can be described as "a temporary enthusiasm for an innovation" (Thio 410). A fad is the current "hype" and will usually fade away and be forgotten in due time. I feel that this form of collective behavior is definitely the most prevalent in this day and age of social media culture. For this example I have chosen the fad that was, once upon a time, very cool... now it's incredibly cringe worthy.

The symbolic interactionist theory on changing interaction states that "the way a society changes, as from traditional to modern, shapes the individuals self-perception and interaction with other" (Thio 420). This is important because society is such a huge factor in our own self-image.
