Reflecting and becoming aware of these practices will allow us to make adjustments and choices that are more equitable for everyone.

The book is a biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder, so I was not expecting this background, but I appreciate the author for presenting it. Her tackling of this subject made the atrocities committed against indigenous people so much more real and egregious than what I ever learned in school. It made me realize that we really have to question history - for every tidbit of history we tell, there is another perspective our curriculum is probably ignoring. It is important for us as educators to continue educating ourselves, and regularly examine what we teach for "hidden curriculum".
