Chapter 5 by rfalloni

Chapter 5 ends by sharing the ending quote from Claude Hopkins’ autobiography “The happiest are those who live closest to nature, an essential to advertising success.” Do you agree with this statement? What do you think this quote means? Especially coming from someone who is involved in advertising.

I agree with Hopkins statement because being close to nature means that you are not dealing with the stresses of society or technology. Coming from someone involved with advertising, I believe that Claude recognizes that success comes from connecting to more preemptive things like nature.

Isolating yourself from the stress of the world by returning to nature is a great way for self discovery and appreciation. By doing this, Hopkins is telling us that living such a life advertises success since you won't have the distractions of the internet to get in your way.

I agree with this statement as nature provides a calming and less stressful lifestyle. I think from an advertising standpoint, since a calm and enjoyable lifestyle is something people strive for, their goal is to make their product appeal to this notion.

Nature or natural, might be one's idealistic viewpoint about being happy. I don't believe this quote means don't ever watch another advertisement in your life. It's about balance and understanding when to ignore advertisements. Some advertisements can be very beneficial depending on a person's needs.

I agree with this statement and think that the quote means those that know what they need and do not need are more likely to be believe only the "best for you" advertisements.

As reading this text, we learn that advertisements pull you in all different types of directions. There are so many things in our society today that are begging for our attention. But, when being closest to nature, we have time to reflect, which is essential to our own success.

I agree with his statement that those that are happiest are those closest to nature. I believe that there is a sense of calm and peace that comes from being away from the hustle and bustle of life as we know it. I think he realized a the end of his life the what he has spent searching for still did not make him happy. Spending his life in advertising that involved constant trickery and had him always in the move, he is able to reflect on the vanity of it all.
