When you are faced with unspoken pressure, you can often find it is "especially hard to resist, because instead of standing up to a friend, you're standing up to what you feel inside"(Communication, pg.7). However, there are many ways to resist this kind of pressure. My favorites are "walk away from the situation"(Communication, pg.7). and "find something else to do with friends"(Communication, pg.7). Having your friends by your side can help a lot.

Negotiation is a way that people are able to settle differences. This process allows you to come to an agreement while avoiding arguments. "The point of negotiations is to try to reach agreements without causing future barriers to communications"(Communication, pg.7).

A collaboration between two parties can produce a compromise that benefits everyone. This way of collaborating allows for all ideas to be considered. It is also important for the goals of both parties to be known. "Clarification is an essential part of the negotiation process, without it misunderstandings are likely to occur which may cause problems and barriers to reaching a beneficial outcome"(Communication, pg.).

One of my family friends had been in a situation where she had to face unspoken pressure. She was invited to a party but when she showed up, there was a lot of alcohol. She felt uncomfortable with the situation and decided to leave with her friends. While in the moment she was being pressured by the people who were hosting the party, her friends made her decision easy. This allowed them to step away from a bad situation and decide to go do something else.
