Sally Ride was born May 26, 1951, in California.

As a teenager Sally was one of the best tennis players in the country but than she realized that she's more interested to study stars, planets and galaxies.

After high school, she went to Stanford University in California where she received 2 bachelor's degrees and degrees in physics.

NASA began looking for women astronauts in 1977. Sally Ride was a student at the time. She saw an ad in the school newspaper inviting women to apply to the astronaut program. Sally decided to apply for the job. She was one of six women picked.

The 8000 people and six women who were chosen underwent exhausting Training.The astronaut training took more than 2 years. Sally was excellend and was chosen for a place on space shuttle Challenger. Her job was to work the robotic arm. She used the arm to help put satellites into space.

June 18th 1983, Sally became the first American woman in space. She was an astronaut on a space shuttle mission.She flew on the space shuttle again in 1984. Looking out of the spaceship gave her a new perspective. She realized that we must take care of our planet, because it's all we have. Ride stopped working for NASA in 1987. She started teaching at the University of California in San Diego. Where she looked for ways to help women and girls who wanted to study science and mathematics. She came up with the idea for NASA’s EarthKAM project. EarthKAM lets middle school students take pictures of Earth using a camera on the International Space Station. Students then study the pictures.

In 2001 she created her own company that aimed to encourage girls to move into science.

2012 she died of cancer.

González is bisexual and uses they/them pronouns.According to Vogue her buzzcut is not a reaction to the school shooting, but rather to Florida's climate. "People asked me, 'Are you taking a feminist stand?' No, I wasn't. It's Florida. Hair is just an extra sweater I'm forced to wear," González recalled. "I even made a Powerpoint presentation to convince my parents to let me shave my head, and it worked."In May 2021, González announced the usage of a new personal name, X with their previous personal name and feminine pronouns.

Her Speech

González spoke for six minutes, the length of time of the Parkland shooting, and paid tribute to the victims by mentioning each one by name and giving examples of activities they would never again be able to do. They followed this by several minutes of silence.

The reaction of the gouverment

In March 2018, the Florida legislature passed a bill titled Majory Stoneman Douglas High School New College Safety Act. It raises the minimum age for buying firearms to 21, establishes waiting periods and background checks, provides a program for the arming of some teachers and the hiring of school police, bans bump stocks, and bars potentially violent or mentally unhealthy people arrested under certain laws from possessing guns.

She became famous after her speach in Washington D.C. on the Commemorative event 3 days after the shooting went viral in the internet. Her speach went on for 11 minutes.

March For Our lifes:

March For Our Lives which is organized by Emma Gonzáles is a peacfull protest that took place on 24th March. It is the largest student protest in American history because 1.3 and 2 million people took part.

Until now Emma Gonzáles is traumatized because of the shooting in 2018.

Ride attended the Westlake School, until 1968. During this time she was a succeful tennis player who was sponsored by Billie Jean King. She began her Studies at the private Smorthomore College in Pennsylvania, but then moved to Stanford University in Palo Alto where she received two bachelor's degrees in English and in physics in 1973. She then specialized in astrophysical issues and laser applications. She received a master's degree in physics in 1975 and received her doctorate three years later.
