Human memory is limited. How did ancient civilizations extent memory beyond the brain? They invented writing as a means to keep records of their stories, write constitutions and codes.

Noah Yuval Harari claims in his Ted talk that money is perhaps the most successful myth in human history. Human societies have disagreed over religion, social structure, political organizations, moral codes, ect, but all human societies since the Neolithic Revolution have believed in the myth of money. Money is a "myth" because it is an intersubjective reality. It only exists in the human brain. For example, if you wanted to trade with a chimpanzee and you offered the chimp a five dollar bill or a fraction of a bitcoin in exchange for a banana, the chimp would never take the deal. If you offered an orange and a cola nut for the banana you might have better luck. The myth of money also transcends other intersubjective beliefs about which human beings disagree. For example, Osama bin Laden hated the United States of America (states being another important modern myth) but he had no problem with American dollars. In fact, as the son of a millionaire many times over, he was quite fond of them and used them to finance his attacks on the Western World.
