President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed and issued the executive ordered relocation of people with Japanese descent. the evacuation of all persons deemed a threat to national security from the West Coast to relocation centers. All Japanese Americans were ordered to report to control stations and report for removal to an internment camp. We were given less than two weeks to sell our belongings and leave our homes. The Japanese internment camps were located in California, Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and Arkansas. My family and I were sent to an internment camp in Utah. We lived in barracks and there were limited resources but there was a sense of community at my internment camp which kept my moral up.

The Japanese Americans arrived at Camp Shelby, Mississippi and there was a huge division between the "Katonks" and "Buddhaheads". The Buddhaheads did not understand why the Katonks were so serious and frugal with their money. They were not united and leaders decided to make the Buddhaheads visit a Arkansas internment camp and they quickly realized the Katonks' sad and lonely situation. The 442nd RCT left the United States for their first overseas assignment in Europe. The 100th Battalion, another troop, fought in Europe as a part of the 442nd RCT. The 442nd Unit and 100th Battalion went into battle together at the village of Belvedere in Suvereto, Tuscany. The troops were fighting the Germans and successfully trapped the German soldiers. The 442nd Unit were ordered to rescue the cut-off 141st infantry battalion that was surrounded by the Germans in the Vosges mountains. The 442nd faced the deadliest fighting seen in war along with dense fog and poor conditions. Eventually the German defenses broke and the 100th and 442nd RCT reached the Lost Battalion on October 30th.

The 442nd was sent to French Riviera to rest and build back their troops after losing men in tough battles. The 442nd patrolled the French-Italian border and occasionally faced enemy soldiers and land mines. The 442nd and 100th planned a surprise attack against German troops to capture the Gothic Line. Several attacks took place over a series of weeks.
