    The President himself called Deniz an "agent terrorist" and Deniz suspects that his imprisonment was an order of ErdoÄŸan. In prison he was completely isolated from other people. Once a week he was allowed to see his lawyer or close family but only for one hour. Even getting in contact with other prisoners was impossible.

    After nine months alone, he finally was allowed to receive letters from his wife an parents. But all the other letters or postcards were held from him.
    Furthermore he was psychologically tortured.

    The Turkish government opened up the trial against Deniz without him being there to defend himself
    Later it was declared illegal and the trial has been postponed.

Their methods for dealing with protests or people with a different opinion are illegal.
    The problem is that the truth will always be covered with different pretexts or excuses and so the process of silencing newspapers will continue.
    Deniz Yücel was lucky having a German citizenship. With that he had support from Germany and the German government.
    But he was not the only journalist in prison. There are many more who we can’t help just because we don’t know about them.
