The first lyrics of the song, Jaymes states, "I'm really on the ropes this time" He is saying this because he feels down, defeated, and is close to giving up even though he knows he shouldn't. Later in the song he states, "That you were my medicine/ Oh, I couldn't quit." This uses ethos to show how this girl made Jaymes feel good in a way like no other. That through no matter what, it is very difficult to quit, and he would never give up on her. Towards the end of the song Jaymes says, "Wake me up when they build that time machine/ I want to go back." In this he feels regret and sadness. He wishes he could go back in time and relive all the memories and time together he had with his girlfriend.

This song "Happiest Year" is full of emotions. In the beginning of the lyrics they state, "Cause you gave me peace/ And I wasted it." The word "peace" is used how how he felt in his relationship with the girl. He was able to feel this sort of freedom and calmness when he was with her. He says "And I wasted it" in a way of regret. He took that feeling of peace for granted and he is now realizing it. A couple lines later Jaymes says, "And I'm down on my knees again." He is going through a hard time, and he is troubling. He's feeling as if he can't do anything, so he falls down to his knees. In the lyrics Jaymes states, "Thank you for the happiest year of my life" 9 times. These lyrics are obviously very important to him. In this he is reminiscing on his past that he had with his girlfriend. He is trying to see a more positive outlook on this whole situation, so he is thanking the girl for the time that he was able to feel happy and so many other emotions.
