Being around a lot of students that researched the same theme as me was great for I learned more ways to translate sound into emotions and image. When sharing my references I felt it was a great exercise for broading my horizons in relation to music, after all, my inspirations for this subject were very short. Watching everyone talk about a range of different artists made me feel more confident to search deeper into independent sources that can benefit my device making and sound recording.

When I arrived at EBAC this morning the plan was to make a water whistle with straws, something I had previously research last week. Unfortunately, none of my attempts to make it sound good were successful and I spent the whole day trying to make this idea work.

I left really sad and with empty hands, which made me think that I could have a stronger research. Having a limited repertory about musical instruments and DIY techniques, my range of experimentations were low and I found myself craving for more strong references. Next time I should come to the studio with a plan B and this would give me more ideas to try out.

Since my whistle idea failed, I had to search other inspirations for my instrument. I came across the ancient horns used in religious rituals in the past and the first thing I gravitated to was to experiment with the sounds it can make not just as a wind instrument.

The idea worked and I was very pleased with the result, which made me think that I should never come only with ONE plan to any project. Things don't always work, there are always issues with materials, time and even the ways the object keeps itself together. I should always hold these thoughts and obstacles in my mind.

Today my group for the project recorded our instrument sounds. I've never had trouble working with other people, so what I did was to hear all of their suggestions, but still giving my opinion. We all had common things that we thought we should do, like recording all sounds individually, and this went to our benefit because what we planned worked for us in the end.

The day went smoothly and we made the action plan for the next production sessions here at EBAC. What I didn't liked was that not all of the members of my group had the same disposition as I did, so this made me reflect that we all need to be willing to work and talk with each other.

Dividing tasks between the members of the group was good considering that everyone would have less to do and therefore could apply completely to the part of the project that was assigned for each person. However, in my opinion, this could be negative because if the member that had to do the audio editing, for example, didn't make a good job, we all can be impaired.

Maybe in the next group project we all can participate in everything and help each other with their functions, for this would create a more organic process of creation and we could give suggestions in benefit of the final result. It's not the whole group that is motivated about the Sound and Vision briefing and I can absolutely agree, but still I want to commit to deliver the best I can.

I had to play with audio editing and storyboard making to help my friends and this, being something exclusive to another pathway, was very new to me. This made me think that we all should have a little bit of background concerning other areas like animation and although it's not my cup of tea, it can be essential when being a versatile professional.

When Leopoldo saw our video, he told me it lacked experimentation. Even though I liked it, I agreed with his comment although it wasn't I who edited it. He brought Jaygo to sort it out and he began to apply effects, masks and transitions that totally enhanced our work. After that, I came to the conclusion that this is the most valuable thing we are getting in EBAC, more than the projects and our outcomes, but the priceless advises of experienced people. This, I think, is the chance to get feedback from someone who not just worked with video and sound, but that made groundbreaking projects such as the Franz Ferdinand visual identity.

I think that this opportunity is what is making me never second guess my choice to study again, for being around talented tutors and students will be much more worth than any paper diploma. I have to keep in mind that if working abroad doesn't come out as I want, no one will take the things I've learned from my head.

When reflecting about how the group work has been, one of the colleagues pointed out the lack of interest from another member. I agreed with the statement because it was a person who I felt it was harder to approach and give one of the tasks, relying that she would be flexible enough to fit the theme we decided. Of course, we all could have tried to include her a little more, but since time is always a issue, we focused on getting the job done as fast and efficiently as we could.

This reflection made me understand that communication is a golden key when working in group for if we three had an extra hand, maybe time wouldn't always be a concern. Next time we should give priority to our time table and action plan, making several versions and giving them the right upgrades.

"More haste, less speed"

The manner I contributed to the project was trying always to be receptive of my peer's ideas and and to take initiative when we needed to divide our jobs. I was happy because I feel that I had leadership characteristics that worked to our benefit, since I was always asking my friends about how their functions where going but still giving my opinion and thoughts.

The feedback we received reflected the communication of our group. Cézar said that two of the graphic scores didn't reflect the visual identity of the project and for that I think that it was hard to keep everyone motivated and willing to do a good job. Not all of the group wanted to listen even to the tutors and this is a behavior I've been seeing with EBAC's younger students. Some act that they have full domain of whatever they are doing and for me is important to try to have a "empty glass" when hearing feedback. This was negative because the outcomes were unsynced and mismatched.

This can lead to a bad idea development and, therefore, bad outcomes. Paying attention to Part 2 assessment criteria is to make sure the work reflects our brainstorming and has a story line that comes from a primary research into a final result.

This, I am sure that could have gone a way better path with the "Sound and Vision" project brief, but despite reflecting about things that threw me off, I was happy with the end result and will keep in mind what I learned.

The research I made previously before coming to today's session made me think various ways and techniques to represent my ideas. Different styles of drawings and stories can be translated into methods like digital illustration, hand drawn with pen and collages. The illustrators I researched weren't stuck to just one kind of reference, so it's important to broaden my perception of drawing.

When illustrating, is important to think about composition, colour, shades, lightning, point of view, details (context), perspective and depth of field.

When drawing in the studio today, I've learned to create a story line with different elements, because is important to put them all together so it becomes a whole scene. Illustrating is a form of narrative, so thinking about characters and what they are doing is fundamental.

The problems I encountered with my illustrations were that I wasn't thinking about shadows and depth. Next time, to improve my work, I should determine a light source and sketch each element individually, so I can have a better notion of what shade the determined object produce.

The way I'm trying to convey a narrative trough the illustrations is keeping the same theme and same universe. Having a clear idea of how my world is ending created a sequence of situations that I can sew into a story - The Halloween Dimension crashed into our universe and it's causing havock and destruction. This idea is going to be shown trough a movie poster and three illustrations,

The way I will change the scale from my sketchbook into a A2 paper is by trowing a picture of the sketch into Photoshop and then creating the painting entirely in the software. As I had some previous experience with digital printing and scaling using the computer, I had no difficulty getting into the method the tutors where showing us.

The most challenging part is to have exactly what the illustrations will be and this process require idea development and some sketchbook time. I surely will use my research as I do this to make a strong thinking progression before I get my hands over the softwares.

Today I came to EBAC to finish the sketches about my end of the world and Anna gave me more suggestions about how to relate all the illustrations. This is what I had more difficulty with, so having some feedback showed how my concept was weak.

My idea needed some development because even sharing the same theme, the illustrations didn't look associated. This made me think ways to fix that and the solution I found was to make common characters who were present trough all four scenes. Even though it restricted my freedom of creating different situations, it made my concept feel stronger and linear. With that, I feel people will understand better what I am talking about and my message will be delivered with no necessity of explaining the project.

It demanded much more time and effort that I could ever imagine and when it was finished, I was very pleased with the result for it was something that I wanted to do very much for this project. However, it forced me to rearrange how the work was getting done.

The first thing I jumped into after this experience was my Action Plan, because having only one week for more three of them, I had to rethink the method used for my digital paintings. I separated two days for each of them and after this new schedule, I sat to start my production. For my relief, I managed to finish the second with time to spare, so my plan is to keep more or less the same composition scheme and don't ever stray from the clock.

What I learned from this is that everything takes more time than we expect.

Having time issues made me rethink decisions and the way I manage my Action Plan. I know that adjusting it is normal, but this project gave me the opportunity to feel this pressure one more time and learn that everything takes longer than we think, so it`s always a good idea to have complete consciousness of how much it will take for you to get the job done.

After testing how much time I would take to finish a single illustration, I could think how the rest would have to be separated into the week, and, therefore, complete the task with time enough to print and display my work with no hurry. This new schedule also gave me time to think about Anna`s suggestions and substitute my last two drawings for two that would create a better story line. I made my best not to stray from my initial ideas but still adding a more apocalyptic feel into my representation of the end of the world.

As I reflected previously, the challenge maintained itself to be separating the days I would need to each illustration and a lot of the project wouldn't be possible if I hadn't made this meticulously. The drawings came up exactly as I planned but as the project is coming to an end, the feeling that I could be experimenting with different techniques grew bigger. I don't know if this would have cut my work in half, but I stand by the decision to create great digital illustrations to my portfolio for it's a method that I can pull out beautiful outcomes.

Everything is finished as I planned as preparation for the crit Monday morning.

All that I planned last week fell apart when the print shop was delayed when printing my work. This created such a negative effect that I had no time to mount my display carefully, which was one of the things that someone pointed out to improve at the time of my crit. Next time, I should trust another place that I am sure that will get the job done with no headaches. Further, I can now add the printing time to my Action Plan so I can always risk assess.

Feedback Received:
-Good research to create illustrations, personal style
-Vibrant colors were good in a macabre theme
-Good details
-Cartoony style is very entertaining
-Outline: is beautiful because is straight and clear, giving good structure to architectural illustrations, but more stactic feel to the moving characters
-The monochromatic illustrations can have more contrasting colors. Blue and orange give a more vibrant feel
-Engaging characters
-The characters could be less clichè (defense: I wanted to make generic characters so the halloween theme could be very clear, but I agree that the design of them could be upgraded!)
-Good composition

Having finished this brief, I feel that I liked the project as a whole because it could really give a nice upgrade to my portfolio. Of course that I enjoyed to create the narrative for the illustrations and it was great that people were able to completely understand it, but I feel that it would be really nice to display on my digital passport to the BA, showing how detailed my creative process was.

Concerning the Part 2 Criteria, I think that, comparing to the Sound and Vision brief, my research was conducted more carefully and that was really shown on my sketchbook. I was very concerned on registering my ideas and the decisions that I kept doing on this project because one of Cézar's advice for the Part 1 Assessment was to show more primary idea development.

Today the new project began and we started the idea generation for the brief "rules, restrictions and chance". Firstly, I was stuck on cliche ideas that, when discussing with my friends, I found to be similar to the ones they were having, but everything changed when Leopoldo said that social subjects could make our game richer.

This made me think about gender rules and how I could create a game that will criticize how society impose them at us. Having a blue box (for boys) and a pink one (for girls), I could make a system that would make the players select clothes to their rightful places, denouncing how gender ideas are restricted and reclusive.

This insight seem to be alright and good, but I need some research and previous knowledge to refine this idea and add game elements to it. I think that, if it's not packed with chance, it won't be what the project brief is asking. So, my job is to develop this thoughts, which I liked the direction they were going, and make them more playable and more artistic. Of course, maintaining the social criticism as a context to make my research more guided.

The idea I decided to go with in this project was a memory game for different gay stereotypes. Monique loved the development and I was ready to book the studio, planning how the cards would look like and how the rules would be shown to the player. However, I decided to risk asess this insight before going any further and for my misery, I discovered that this idea could go into a disaster.

Risk Assessment:
-Booking the studio in ESPM could take a long while (the reason that I wasn't going to do it in EBAC was because the models were all going to be ESPM students) because I needed a teacher's authorization
-The models could not be available for the day and this could affect the whole planning
-If the costumes for each gay type (bear, cub, twink, sophisticated) were not on point, the entire message of this project could be very confusing

This risk assessment made me give up on this idea, for I would have no time to execute it the way I want. I can storage this for later development, but for this king of quick project, it could go very wrong.

Having my previous idea destroyed by my risk assessment, I came to EBAC to develop more ideas and to try to create something that still gravitated inside the same theme, but would be more achievable inside the time of the project brief.

Still thinking about gay subjects and social themes, as Leopoldo suggested, I wanted to create something more educational and kids driven. Having a discussion with my friends on monday, who didn't know elementary differences of LGBTQ personas, this talk gave me another great insight. People don't dominate gender ideology, what differs a queer from a gay male or female, from a transgender person or even drag queens.

So, taking a popular scheme that illustrated what is gender identity, I decided to create a gingerbread game which kids will be able to read character stories and will have a simple goal of choosing the right "buttons" for each persona. This would educate them with concepts that are necessary for a more acceptance driven environment, fundamental to develop a more LGBTQ friendly world.

This weekend I will work on creating the character stories and the concepts for the board, the game pieces, the material shopping and the basic rules; always altering my Action Plan. The production will start on monday and finish tuesday so I can have the rest of the week to focus on the video outcome planning and execution.

Being the last day of the project, things started to get a little bit rushed because of the pressure of being the only day I could adjust my work. My Action Plan worked perfectly all the week, but today I had to separate some extra time to create a good box for my game and to record my video. I am leaving EBAC with everything on it's way, but some adjustments will have to be done at home.

In my independent studio day yesterday I used the print studio to make the board, rules and stories for my game and it ended up pretty great. All my anxiousness about this silk screen experimentations disappeared as everything went smoothly and even though it took longer than I expected, I had the whole day to be inside the studio.

Why the silk screen took longer than expected?
-To get the phytoliths I prepared, I had to wait more four hours than it was promised.

Something that I need to pay extra attention when risk assessing is the time the print shops take to get their jobs done. Printing my work and making phytoliths is taking way much time than these places are saying they need. Therefore, if I am making things in a rush and with little time in my schedule, my Action Plan will get all messed up. Because of that, if I need to rely on this facilities, I need to be conscious that I will need time to spare.

My game connected with players in the sense that it was very easy to understand its mechanics. Being designed for kids, I wanted to make it as approachable as possible, with an easy design and vibrant colours. I am happy with this connection for it was my intent to make it very light and the response I got from people was that seamed very childish and fun. Receiving the feedback, I realized that I met the criteria of the brief and I was able to solve the problem that the "rules, restrictions and chance" project had to bring to us. And even though feeling satisfied, I wish there was more time to really think about the stories of my characters, the sizes of the icons and the game boards.

Feedback Received:
-Is a very educational game that can bring good discussions for everyone.
-The way the work was presented is amazing, there was much effort with the choosing of fabric, the fine cutting of the icons and characters.
-I got out of my confort zone when making silk screen, for example.
-The theme of the work is a tabu, but the game made possible to break this barrier and not hold a heavy language for children.
-The stories, the visual representation of the sexual genitalia is light and easy for children to understand, The colours, the materials and the typography chosen all help to enhance this fun and young atmosphere.
-This game can show that is natural to feel different about your sexuality and gender.
-The use of humor is very clever because is a way to touch the tabu theme, but also connect each step of the game and make it fun all the way.

For this project, I can evidence criteria 2.1 and 2.2 of Unit 4 for I showed ability to plan actions and time to meet my schedule and its deadlines. My Action Plan proved fundamental and useful throughout the whole production week and setting colors and priorities for my targets helped to keep my work up to date and with feedback from my tutors.

Writing the rationale before planning ahead was really useful because it gave me a certain confidence to proceed to the idea generation and brainstorming afterwards. It was like starting a process that can never end, for an idea can be revisited a million times if necessary. The rationale is like a way of initiating a web of thoughts that can be organized into a Action Plan for later production.

When rewriting my brief, I got the sense that I wanted to give a new spin to what was already established. Since I've chosen the "Sound and Vision" project, instead of creating a song or animation, I will develop the visual communication of the band and what me and my group already delivered.

My aims and objectives became a lot clearer when making an Action Plan considering that it provided me a strong sense of what I could develop for this "remake project". I could than decide the amount of outcomes I want and carry that through the research that needs to show independence.

When using the SCAMPER technique, I chose the "Purpose" session because it could unravel different and more creative approaches to the a simple visual communication. This gave me the idea to create a marketing campaign for my previous song outcome, making album covers and posters that could really be done by the use of techniques that are unusual to my personal practice such as wood carving and collage.

When risk assessing what I've planned for this week's project, I realized that I won't be able to find one of the materials I was looking for in a short period of time. After researching printing techniques in "The Complete Printmaker" by John Ross, I've learned that pine is a great type of wood to experiment with woodcut, since my quest is for a texturized material. However, looking into multiple stores and suppliers, I could only find plane boards with very soft wood surfaces, which were all the same to me.

This experience costed me a lot of time, but the risk assessment proved that not knowing and researching stores and suppliers can really get on the way of my project. Having the same problems with my A2 portfolio paper, I could benefit of getting notes of stores and places that can help me with my material needs.

My album cover will be made on a softer kind of wood, which I'm not completely happy about. However, since is my first time getting into this technique, what I already bought will be enough. Feeling very anxious to get my hands on the tools tomorrow, I will work on the independent studio day so if anything goes wrong with my experimentations, I can adjust my Action Plan with no hurries.

The first time I experimented with woodcut techniques was in the independent studio day and for that I am grateful, since now I won't have any problems to continue with my Action Plan. It was a very new sensation to me and it was tempered with a little bit of panic because I had no idea how my outcomes would turn out.

This desperation was due to the fact that it was the first time I had the tools on my hands and also there was no tutor around to say if anything was being done wrong. For my happiness, everything went smoothly and I had the whole day to correct mistakes and try more and more experimentations. In the end, I've learned tips from my friends that really helped me to achieve whatever I was looking to do with the wood texture.

My schedule proved once again that my planning methods are working out for my personal practice. I managed to make the woodcut in different colours so I could transfer this images to the computer and play with image editing to create the "Nine Nights" album cover.

However, what I most liked about this experience is that now I have some background with this new technique and I look forward to do more stuff with it.

The project chosen to the "I do, I redo, I undo" was the "Sound and Vision" brief because I felt there was a lot that I still could explore in the theme selected for those previous outcomes: the viking, norse atmosphere. Therefore, I planned my time so I could experiment with techniques that I have no domain, such as the woodcut, and my Action Plan accompanied the time needed so I could achieve what was planned with time to spare. If I had determined a large amount of outcomes with processes that I've never tried before, I would not be able to deliver what I intended to experiment with in only a week time.

Since the theme was norse mythology, I chose a technique that was relevant to the subject and which was used centuries ago by the Scandinavian to create their runic alphabet: the woodcut. Consequently, the research made went along with this method and using "The Complete Printimaker" by John Ross, I learned more about the certain types of wood, the tools needed and how I should carve the material to achieve the result I was looking for. Also, there is a lot of historical evidence that served as a backup for this genre of art that the pre-christian civilizations had among their people and this was one of my biggest inspirations.

My personal aims for this week's project was to create a marketing campaign for the song that I created previously with my group, with a album cover and the right communication for the band. I partially achieved what I intended because there was a need for more in-depth research to conduct the poster development and this still be explored in the future as a continuation of this project for my portfolio.
The project changed a lot for one of my objectives was to developed something that was rather superficial in the last project brief, concerning the visual identity of the sound and the band. So, my range of experimentations and research had little to do with was already set, but there was space so I could set my own restrictions and rules, creating an independent creative process that conducted my investigations.

The Inclusion Game - Operation MIS

Since I was invited to present my game in this event called "Transfobia", I had to prepare a whole new version of what I invented previously. In a meeting with Cristiane, one of the museum managers, she said that the english version presented in EBAC wouldn't be sufficient to the number of people they were expecting for the actual day. Therefore, my whole challenge was to make the game bigger, and this was the mission for itself.

The A3 size of the silkscreen frame would never be sufficient to do the job for an A1 fabric and during the week, I researched different methods to print the board, rules and character stories. This was the most challenging part of the process for I had enjoyed the method used before, which ended up in a pretty great result. My first option was to create stencils to use blue spray on, but it needed to be a hard surface to make the type very polished. When contacting the shops I needed to make an acrylic blade for all my three prints, I soon discovered that once again I could not rely on this places in such a short period of time. Then, I experimented cutting 300g couche paper for the stencils, but the result when using the ink over such a soft material was still not going to create something I could be proud of. For those reasons, I made all the letters and typography for the game boards with the same material I used for the dolls and buttons: the felt fabric. It took me more time and patience, but the result was beautiful and far more great than with printing techniques on a delicate themed game.

Not only the board and materials, I had trouble with the rules and character stories. Because of that, I made an A3 piece with all three basic questions of the game, so people could rationalize better when hearing the stories. When the day arrived, this was the major flaw I've seen that I could repair, because this was not sufficient for the public. Next time, I should right the rules perhaps over an A2 piece of felt with the exact same text I had with the silkscreen previous solutions. This would make much more easy the job of thinking about the answers because you will be consulting the options.

The day of the "Transfobia" event I had a great space for myself. It was right in front of MIS's entrance, with a board and kid's decorations to make the place more inviting. People came along all the time and if I had not invited Julie to help me with the talking, I would be lost. All the time there were adults coming to play and this was very good to spread my idea, because psychologists and educators were very inclined to ask my contact and invite me to take the game to their schoold and events. It was a gigantic networking experience that didn't just created opportunities, but gave me the chance to hear good feedback about what I brought.

The most rewarding experience was to play with two kids that, for my amazement, demonstrated to be much more easy to talk with. Of course that I had to guide them trough the game, but they never said that the stories I came up to explain the LGBTQ personas were strange or wrong. Some older adults were reluctant to absorb the characters and options that they had available.

In conclusion, it was an amazing experience to test my idea and the confidence I had on its theme and challenge. Even more, it gave me the taste of working over a real schedule for a real client and a real responsibility. Of course, it game me great material to apply to my portfolio as well.

It is very cheap and visiting the store one time was enough to find over 11 different tones. The material showed to be very malleable, easy to cut and a decent surface to use printing techniques. Searching references of kids toys like the Operation Game was very useful when brainstorming what I wanted for my own game, how the design was going to be and how I could make the playing experience simple and fun.

Now that a lot ideas are popping in my head, I wanted to create something that I really cared for this project. To achieve the result I want, the method I have most practice is digital illustration and despite that this will take much longer, it is the technique I' most comfortable with.

To this project end up really successful I have to plan my next days really carefully and I think that sticking to the schedule will be the real challenge. Since that each illustration will take very long to make, I cant stray from what I will establish ahead.

Other thing that is in my concerns is the storytelling of the whole project and how four of the illustrations will come with a big arch in the end. As I am sketching the ideas, a lot of those were discarded, the sketches forgotten and the concepts re imagined. This necessity comes up with a lot of feedback I get from my peers and tutors and even though they mess my Action Plan, they are useful to help me understand better what the project is all about and what the others students are expecting for the next crit.

Today we started the session by hearing about the new brief, which was designed for us to create environments that tell stories and have a narrative of its own. We had the lecture from Marcia, an artist that always had a relationship with landscapes in her personal practice. She moved to Austria and talked a lot about how designing and observing the world around us is related to shape and to studying its influence in our minds.

The most valuable thing that I learned is that this places that we need to evoke with so much meaning have deep connections with memories and this is the key when coming up with a story line. If I look back at my road as an art student, maybe I can see patterns inside my practice, the same relations, common themes and thought threads. An example of this is with Franz Kafka's writings, which were all reflections of subjects such as authority, patriarchal power and how the world is intimidating and violent. Therefore, the mission is to find the environments that surround my subconscious feelings.

Maybe what is important about an artist's job is that he needs to be talking about something, reflecting and pondering about the world around him. As Gaëtan Picon described "An dormant artist is far less powerful then the one who is awake".

The way my project connected with my experiences was that if I had no registration of my feelings and memories from the place I visited, the whole concept wouldn’t be possible. I had a lot of inspiration based on the sensations I got from my parents house and this proved to be the core of the aesthetic and souvenir design. Much more than that, when explaining the whole concept of being not just a sleeping kit, but a "survival kit" for insomnia, everyone got it straight away. The thing that I could do to improve it is to think more about the design of the box, for example, or the logo of the flying company. Having a consistent design for something I created as merchandising could make the idea even for solid and effective.

Feedback Received:

-The good feedback I received was most due to the fact that my project fitted very nicely in the souvenir theme because the objects were traveling accessories from a flying company. They were very much inside the "vacation" atmosphere and this is the strongest point about this particular briefing, in my opinion. Also, I was commended for connecting my experience of not being able to sleep in my parents house to real and physical objects that made totally sense with what the tutors were expecting.
-Another thing my peers liked is that throughout my Foundation journey I've been showing my personal style and the things I like through my projects. It seems that a mixture of children's innocence and humor with dark themes is what I've been delivering and I can see that with previous works such as "The End of the World" and "Rules, Restrictions and Chance". This influences I had from fairy tales and medieval literature is something I definitely will try for Part 3.

The Part 2 Assessment Criteria I can evidence for this project is the 4.2 because I could solve a problem like the souvenir one with visual communication and artistic techniques. It was trough the language of my sleeping kit that people understood that they were travelling accessories satisfactory enough for a souvenir challenge.

Today I took my time to really reflect about the Surrounding Narratives project and when thinking about graphic design and my love for typography, the idea came naturally. I started looking at objects, pillars or EBAC's architecture and seeing letters, which turned to be my greatest insight for the briefing. When transforming this exercise and enlarging those drawings, I got the sense that I could explore even more the proximity that the letter have with the object or construction aspect. Than, I felt that I could merge this two elements and create unique outcomes with different kind of medias, exploring, for example, illustrations with the inked ABCs, collages, digital paintings and others.

I think that taking this time to play with the drawings made me see the narrative in the relations of the typography and the surrounding environment. Visualising the transformation of a place into a letter told a story for itself and can be a closer look of they way how my brain sees the world and objects around me. Because of that, my biggest concern for this project is that it appears to be a lettering exercise, so I have to deeply explore how this approximation will build a narrative that fits into the requirements.

When printing my poster featuring my ink letters and Gaia's drawing, I was a bit disappointed with the result. The lovely texture I had lost all its contrast and my work faded in the background. Surely the result was't bad, but is sad that riso printing is so hard to find in Brazil.

I had this experience with the difficulty of getting one photlith for a silk screen illustration project and this is terrible because a lot of the techniques I want to experiment with are not that easy to find. Depending of this places is yet the most challenging part of the projects for me and because I consider myself a perfectionist , I want to commit to the best I can do.

This experiences make me think about how is fundamental to be independent as an artist - to have your own equipment and even confidence - and find ways to solve apparently difficult projects in an unique way.

Intention: make observational drawings of EBAC’s architecture.

I made good progress when making my sketches, looking at the buildings aspects and connecting those to the letters I had before. If I hadn’t separated today’s time to create this, there wouldn’t be a narrative to fit inside the the project brief. The next step is to refine this drawings and make them ready to the printable outcome.

The materials were appropriate in the sense that I could use the drawings as a basis for my future versions. Choosing the right angle and dimension will be useful when relating the architectural illustration and the letter, creating the narrative. With the graffiti, I could define stronger or thinner lines and mold the perspective and intention of that visual registration.

The most important components to my design are that it has to hold resemblance to the letter painted previously in ink, it has to be simple and not that complex and it must complement the painted type. All these reasons where due to the fact that the story will be clear when the two elements of the poster come together, so choosing more minimalist aspects will be important to create the balance of the outcome.

Giving it some finishing touches, I cleaned some finger spots from the paper and made it all clear and ready so Jaygo can analyse it. Looking around and seeing my peers stressed about it gave me the sense of accomplishment because, as Michael said, we had over a month to organize our folders. Due to that, I took the whole July to Action Plan and make sure that it was going as planned.

My portfolio had the minimum 10 sheets, but each one of the was carefully planned and as Anna said, I displayed a wide range of techniques and experiments throughout the whole thing. I think that what really set my folder apart from my other colleagues is that it took some time to carefully think about the layout of the A2, instead of only putting just a simple A3. After all , I feel proud of my application even that it could have more two or tree pages.

Having little spare time, I focused on preparing my online portfolio and it was way more fun. There was much more flexibility two use my visual communication abilities to tell the story of the the Foundation Projects and use different media such as video or animated images.

When I first arrived, I understood the idea my peers had previously (the alien characters) and I think that it fit perfectly with the sporty vibe of the outdoor area. After taking notes of the sizes, I realized that this was fundamental so the group have a better notion of the area in general and it will be very useful when the time to create the model comes.

Furthermore, since I was sick last week and didn't see the space with my own eyes, it was nice to have a closer look and really understand what this project is all about. For now, my colleagues and I have the ideas flowing, we sketched more characters and I gave the idea of finalizing all the work in Illustrator because we can stretch the drawings as much as we want. I went down to the Mac Lab to experiment with this insight and for my amazement, the outcome came pretty good. Now I have more confidence to colorize all the aliens and have a strong intent of what the entire process of this briefing will be.

The way it helped us was to confirm that is possible to print the outcomes in such a gigantic scale, transforming the software file into a big banner worthy to fill the whole wall.

Therefore, we can still carry the idea of making a good and fun composition of illustrations and is useful to use Adobe for we can stretch, enlarge and change how the drawings relate to each other. Because of the techniques we selected, the scale shouldn’t be such a problem for the final result. The analog processes should come before the digitalisation, so any problems should appear before the printing.

Risk Assessment:
-How much it would cost to print so big artworks to fit into the walls? $$$

Even more, working with others was hard as well, the ideas are different and the care each member has with the project is very relative.

The goal of changing the site’s architecture was achieved by me and my colleagues because, using our visual communication skills, we could enhance the creativity of the place. Proposing art pieces for the walls is a great way of stimulating the kid’s creativity, for example, they can imagine themselves in space, playing soccer with aliens. In consequence, I think this will create a safer and fun environment for everyone from "Cidade do Pequeno Cidadão".

Looking back at the previous two weeks, I think much could have been done differently, but since it was a group project and we all need to cope with our friends, the outcomes came very satisfactory and creative. Now I feel confident to proceed to Part 3 of the Foundation Course and be independent when planning my own briefing, my own outcomes and Action Plan.
