         <title>Limitations of METS to Measure Exercise Intensity</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This is a general method to measure the intensity of exercise according to a person's oxygen requirements at a resting state.&nbsp;<br>It is assumed that oxygen consumption is proportional to energy expenditure, assuming that everyone uses 3.5mL oxygen/kg/minute<br>So, 1 MET = 3.5mL/kg/min.<br><strong>Disadvantages:<br></strong>- This is only an approximation of energy expenditure because each individual will have varying metabolic efficiencies and different rates at which energy is burnt. Will not be specialised for the individual.<br>- Does not account for individual variations like age, gender, muscle mass, risk of disease/sickness and other environmental factors.&nbsp;<br><br><strong>Advantages:<br></strong>Provides a generalised way of measuring exercise intensity&nbsp;and can be used as an overall guideline/indicator </div>]]></description>
