Game Proceedings:

One person is selected as the Yogi.

The other players must do the yoga poses that the Yogi tells them to do if the instruction starts with “Yogi says.”

If the Yogi doesn’t use “Yogi says,” then players do not do the pose.

Keep changing the person who is Yogi, so that everyone gets a turn."

I have been thinking about the mindfulness sessions you mentioned to me. Some ideas are below: 

• Self-esteem - you can practice affirmations and develop power poses to go along with each one.

• The Five Senses - go for a walk and talk about what you see, hear, etc. Or have each student talk about something they smell, see, hear, taste, and feel that calms them.

• Emotions - go over different feelings, and have students act each of them out.

• Coping Skills - learn breathing strategies (box breathing, rainbow breath, balloon breath, etc.) OR go through various coping strategies (read, draw, go for a walk, listen to music, yoga, eat a snack, puzzles, etc.) and have them pick which ones would help with some of the big feelings that were covered. 

• Mindful Thoughts (visualization) - you can go through a mindfulness meditation script that encourages visualization OR play a This or That game where students pick which place makes them feel calm (beach or mountains, plane or boat, camping in nature or being in their home, etc.)

• Mindful Movement - complete a high energy and a low energy body break (dance along video vs. yoga). Talk about how their body feels after each. 

• Gratitude - Talk about or create a booklet that has a food, place, person, animal, activity, and season they are thankful for.

In completing this project, what did you discover about yourself? (Please include a 3–4 sentence response.):

I discovered that I enjoy the leadership of teaching younger kids. I really enjoyed speaking in front of everybody also. It was great to have kids looking up to you and they were a lot of fun to interact with.

Describe in detail what you did for your leadership role. (Please include a 3–4 sentence response.)

I planned fun activities and carried them out. I gave instructions and led activities. I also demonstrated these instructions when it was necessary.

What part of your project would you change if you could start over, and why? (Please include a 3–4 sentence response.)

If I was starting over I would take more time to go over the expectations for listening behavior. I found that by the end of the sessions, the kids were having a hard time focusing. I think this could have been fixed by spending more time on the expectations.

What skills did you gain and how will these skills help you in the future? (Please include a

3–4 sentence response.)

I gained great leadership skills. This is extremely useful. It can be applied at school if I have a group project or presentation. It can also help me in life if I am in charge of people or an interview where I will be able to speak professionally. It can also help by being able to research and plan things.
