Luz is the protagonist of the Owl House and in her journey of self-discovery in a foreign world of magic nothing like her modern world , she manages to stay true to herself despite adversity. Luz is very courageous to the point where her unwavering courage can get her into tough situations as she often doesn't think before she acts. But this attribute that can be a flaw is directly related to a great trait of Luz which is her persistence. If she has a goal whether that be saving her friends or how to learn a new spell , nothing and no one can stop her. She's the embodiment of self-reliance in how she "trust thyself" and how her montra seems to be "nothing can bring you peace but yourself." Luz knows who she is and is assured in her abilities which help her in her many journeys.

Song influenced by "Self-Reliance" (*note* i did not copy norah i found out after we did the same song)

'I Will Survive' by: Gloria Gaynor themes of loving yourself and persistence align well with similar themes in 'Self-Reliance'. An example being the lyric "And I grew strong ,And I learned how to get along" and "You think I'd crumble? You think I'd lay down and die? Oh no, not I, I will survive" and a quote from the text "Nothing can bring you peace but triumph of principles." In the song Gloria has recently had her heart broken and felt like she couldn't go on with life without him. But as the song progresses Gloria realizes she doesn't need anyone else but herself to survive , she will continue through life depending on herself as the ultimate source of happiness and to not place all her happiness in someone else. The thesis of the song is the same as the one in 'Self-Reliance' which is in the title , to depend on yourself for ultimate bliss.

Rosalind is prime example of a person who was severely misunderstood and not appreciated in her time but has since been acknowledged for all she has done in the study of chemistry. In her short life Franklin life she made triumphant steps in the study of the molecular structure of DNA , RNA , viruses , etc. But when she was alive all her work was credited to other men and she got no recognition for all she did. In a time where women pursuing work in the field of science was unheard of, Rosalind Franklin's strides have inspired other little girls to work in stem when it was blasphemy to do so.

How Chris McCandless and self-reliance go hand and hand

Chris's life , though cut short , was one that was all his own. Before Chris went into the wild he was an accomplished young man with a bright future ahead of him. But this bright future that seemed all but guaranteed wasn't the life Chris wanted to lead. So by taking the leap of leaving all his material items and family without a word , Chris found himself and how he wanted to spend his life. Just as the text describes , Chris was one of those individuals who was misunderstood in his time with all who knew him or heard his story questioning why he would give up he had for a life spent in the wilderness roaming around. Chris made the bold move in trusting himself and despite all criticism he found peace in himself which a thing a lot people can't say they found in their long lives.
